Sitting here at Consol, I just realized this is the 3rd straight R32 loss by a 1 seed that I personally witnessed. And I couldn't be happier for the Nova fans here. All year I've been saying how overrated they and the Big East are. Now just need ND to win tonight to go 2-0 in the Consol ACC/Big East Challenge.

2002 UCLA over Cincy
2011 Butler over Pitt
2015 NCSU over Nova

If Pitt ever gets another 1 seed, I wont be going to the R32 game.

2002-fizer broke his leg
2009-epic brain fart
2015-beatdown whole game

Your Cincinnati memories are a little off...

First, Marcus fizer played for Iowa state, I don't think he ever broke his leg. I think you are thinking of Kenyon Martin, but he was not on the 2001-2002 cincy team. That cincy team was led by Steve Logan, a nice PG. They also had jason maxiell, future nba player.

The UCLA-cincy game was epic. lavin was the ucla coach and ucla had a lot of talent to only be a 9 seed. Gadzuric, kapono, Matt Barnes...really good team, and just an epic game played before Pitt and cal played a pretty boring game in the nightcap

When you consider that 8 and 9 seeds were a combined 22-125 against 1 seeds heading into the tournament. I would say it is fairly significant. I was at the Butler game in 2011, and this one tonight, so for 8/9 seeds to be 2-0 given the overall in my case is pretty amazing.

The 8/9 vs 1 upset is less likely to happen than a 13 beating a 4, and comparable to a 14 beating a 3. So essentially, it has historically been the 2nd or 3rd biggest upset that happens in the tournament.

This PARTICULAR 8/9 v. 1 match-up certainly had similarities to UCLA/Cincy.

It was very arguable that the underdog had the better talent.

And, it is very arguable that the better coach lost.

Also quite arguable the 1-seed was over-rated and should have been seeded lower.

Fizer????

Kenyon Martin for Cincy.........

I remember a Marcus Fizor (sp?) that played for Iowa St when they got upset as a #2 seed.
