Jeffress

Maybe I should qualify my statement. He should have a head coach who won't tear him down and bring him to his level.
Yeah i don't buy that either. The kids reminds me of a player that should be on a trajectory of Toney to me.
A plus defensively who will struggle and learn and get better with time.
With Toney however i saw more flashes of skill.
I'm wondering if Jeffress will ever get to that level. And no i don't think it's the coaches. I don't care about your narrative.
Its about the skill of the player. I'm wondering how good he could be.

Wasn't he highly recruited?
Yes, he was. I thought we
had a gem. I've seen enough
to be convinced that he has
talent. All last year I posted
on here that it was "latent
talent." I was hoping that
getting a yr. older (18 now)
we'd start to see his growth.
Tonight's game was a debacle
for him. He does rebound
pretty well, but his shot just
isn't there. He had numerous
opportunities tonight to
show improvement in a
number of areas besides his
shot. I saw nothing to make
me think he's improved.

It's only one game, but it was
bad, really bad. I hope he
somehow comes around.

How many players with talent has Capel lost already? This could be another one. If he had competent coaching, given his talent, don't you think he would have showed some improvement year over year?

I don't think so. I also don't think it's all that simple.
I don't know where he fits. He's not an outside shooter, doesn't seem to have a dribble, drive, and finish game, and isn't a rebound and put back guy. He misses layups too.

Collier is equally offensively challenged, and also looks completely confused on defense.

I don't know how much talent he actually has... is the point offensively.
You have to show you have any before you can get it coached up. I'm wondering if he'll ever get it together.

I think he will get better as the year goes on but doubt we see a big leap into consistency on O.

He is younger than most Freshman and some HS kids.

Ten years ago in this program, he would have redshirted last year and be sitting on the bench learning this year.

That’s not to say he ever develops - but keep perspective on age even if he was highly recruited

Bizarre a top100 player could mask how limited he is ? Looks like a long term project with a chance of getting there still.
Collier, on other hand. to me always looked like long project with less of a chance.

He was ranked as the 75th best player and is playing for the worst team in the P6 and looks like he doesn't even belong on the floor. The age thing only works for so long. He has no basketball skills. He's just long and athletic. He was a complete miss.
