Jeffress

Has Hugley been around since he announced he was taking rest of year off? I did not recall seeing him at Louisville.

I don’t think he’s traveled for road trips for a while. He has been at home games until today.

Based on Capel’s interview on Sirius XM earlier this week you could tell without him confirming that Hugley is dealing with a serious mental health issue.

I saw Will Jeffress on Wednesday; @ the Pete. He had on a walking boot, and was using crutches.

I have known a few people who have had mild depression / mental issues. Most of them gained weight in part because of the antidepressant medications. This is what I noticed when I see Hugley as he is now.

Well on the payboard someone said they saw him a couple of weeks ago on the Southside at a bar drinking.

Is that what we call laziness now?

Ummmm so?
You do understand the heavy link with depression and alcohol right? Alcohol exacerbates depression 100 fold. And yes i speak from experience and had to quit drinking 18 years ago.
Alcohol will negate any positive effect of medication and therapy.
The kid can go out and drink a million club sodas, which maybe he was. I pray that's what he does or he he won't progress the way he wants or needs to.
Alcohol is the worst thing you can do when Depressed next to drugs.
Until I hear someone saw him fall down drunk or pounding beers I don't put much into the "someone saw him out" . The guy can and should go out, what he does while he's out is the difference maker.

Hopefully that is a poor attempt at humor.
It was, you’re right and it was definitely a poor attempt. I don’t know what Hugs has going on so I have no business making any assumptions.

Hugs’ situation, whatever it is that has cussed him to gain a ton of weight and quit working with his team aside, that “mental health” card gets played way too often and way too easily. It’s too often used as an excuse for ordinary human character flaws, weaknesses and behavior. It’s the easy explanation for many things that have never needed any explanation.

It’s not unlike the other relatively recent trend of celebrities and public figures that get caught engaging in sex scandals labeling themselves as suffering from “sex addiction” and checking themselves into bogus “sexual addiction” rehab programs. Total crock of $hit to excuse their own rampant indiscretions.

Other recent examples were Simone Biles or Shiffrin cracking at the moment of truth under Olympic pressure. There was a huge media and public outcry to raise “mental health awareness” from those episodes. It was simple performance anxiety-aka choking-which is as old as time and which is not a “mental health” crisis of any kind.

And for the record, I was one of the posters defending them both from the armchair Olympians on this board who’ve never faced any pressure beyond temporarily misplacing their TV remote. These elite athletes are human. The pressure is immense, incomprehensible to anyone who hasn't spent their entire life working toward one moment or purpose. Failure happens, the moment is too big and they lose their mental edge. That’s not mental illness or a “mental health” issue.

Sure it is a mental health issue. Mental health is a broad spectrum. You do not need medication to have mental health issues. It is very difficult for me to believe he is just lazy. He has seen what bounty there is for high performing athletes. Do you seriously think a guy who managed to get there is going to throw it all away because he wants to be lazy? Unless his family is fabulously wealthy, he knows what it takes to secure success. Not doing that is most certainly a manifestation of the brain. The “cure” could be a lot of different things.

Start praying right now that you don't develop mental issues. I went thru a couple of months of severe depression a while back and it was the scariest thing that ever happened to me. It's no joke.

Same. I used to think "why are these people depressed, they have everything going for them, they are just weak minded", then it happened to me. And it SUCKS. Anxiety/depression is no joke and I'd wish it upon no one.

Antidepressants don’t cause cause weight gain .
Depression does

Using biles is a poor example as one of the most decorated gymnasts in U.S. history .
It wasn’t performance anxiety because she talked about it even before qualification .
She’s so good she still qualified despite her anxiety issues

Naomi Osaka is another top performer and champion player who stepped away - first from mandatory media and the game itself as a result .
It likewise wasn’t performance related

If you’re going to use examples pick better ones

I do have to say that mirtazapine does cause weight gain. I could have been a competitive eater on that stuff
Yeah, when I was going through my depression, I had no appetite and lost like 20lbs. When I started taking lexapro, I feel like a bottomless pit.

PubMed studies beg to differ.
And if you give them to a control group without depression they don’t .
Easing the symptoms increases appetite

Tv makes people think depressed people sit around and eat -
They don’t - they lose appetite , because their activity slows .
Your body compensates as a result .

It’s not the medication - it’s the disease .
Appetite returns first - then increase activity off sets that .
When you’re anxious and depressed you aren’t exercising regularly .

So the couple anti-depressants that cause people to lose weight is also due to people being depressed and not the drugs?

Depression is no joke. It can be hereditary in that it may be something bigger like symptoms of schizophrenia. Typically starts to show up late teens or early 20s. I speak from family experience.

Wow, you totally Ummmm so?'d his ass...

Which are those ?
I mean bupropion is rarely associated with like 5 pounds of loss due to decreased appetite r
Fluoxetine has maybe sometimes 7 pounds loss for morbidly obese people - which again - is more a function of helping the depression

So these people "choked" at the moment of truth, huh? Please share with us from where you received your PhD? Inquiring minds want to knw.

Exactly what happened to me. I lost a lot of weight during my depression. Lexapro was relatively new when it was proscribed to me. My doctor told me when I came out of my depression I had to be careful of weight gain and he was right. I actually became euphoric and found myself walking out the front door on my way to work singing out loud.
