Jerseys and helmets look awesome

People have to stop calling them "throwbacks". Esp referencing 1976. Nothing like those!

But they are inspired by the 1980's uniforms and they are AWESOME

Those reminded me of the VanPelt days but I think they had yellow face masks. Either way some version of those needs to come back they just are hands down the best helmets in college football. I think Texas is second but no doubt whose are the best.

These colors the Team is wearing today look to be from the Gottfried Era. Below are the colors I prefer though.

I agree....But that's what I thought they would be when I saw the pics of them.Modernized version of a throwback.

Agree. This screams "Pitt football" to me. But today's uniforms were pretty cool. Nice to have something unique and not the standard blue and gold that so many teams use.

Its a home run and distinctive as hell. If you turn on the TV and see those colors, you know Pitt is playing. Let the rest of the university use the current blue and gold, I don't see why the football team can't use the old colors, if they don't want to go all in with the blue and yellow. There are other schools that use a myriad of colors, I don't think it hurts the brand.

And I like the colors we used today. Its clean, bright, and I believe the shade of blue is unique to college football.

Hey guys ....why argue? We now have BOTH!!!

Clothing looks better in the new colors rather than throwback... but I like bringing these out as a special occasion thing....just not sure it would not get stale every week. Also I like the cathedral numbers and multiple combos

Hey you're right...those are fantastic looking threads...ought to wear that combination more often...really reminded me of the old PITT days...love the bright blue jerseys and the Pitt script on the helmets. Talk it up here in Panther-lair and maybe Narduzzi will hear and keep letting them play in these uni's.

They should be used from here on. Pitt stands out. Who else looks they way compared to the many teams that use blew and gold. Even gt used to have that combination until their recent change. And theirs looks nice with the behive helments.a very distinctive look.
GT never wore bright yellow and royal blue. They have always had the vegas gold helmets only until they recently started using the white ones like they wore today. To me, if we are going to do throwback get it right.Get the mustard gold helmets and the mustard pants and the slightly darker royal jerseys.(not like Majors 2)But early 80's.Not saying todays unis looked bad but they are just a modernized version of the late 80's jerseys.

There is a reason that no one else in the country uses those colors. They are ugly. They always have been. They always will be. Some folks are so enamored with having "our own" colors that they are willing to overlook that fact. It doesn't make it any less true.

I get where you are coming from but I'm not hearing much of this opinion.

Because like I said, for whatever reason it is more important to some people to have unique colors that we can call our own rather than colors that actually look good.

I'll tell you what. Go in to any men's store in the country tomorrow and look and see if you can find any shirts for sale there that are either the color of blue that we wore today or the color of yellow that we wore today. I could save you some time though and tell you that you aren't going to find any. And the reason for that is that no one would buy and wear a shirt of either of those colors for anything other than a Pitt sporting event. Because those colors are ugly.

Joe - I hear you but there are other teams who have no problem wearing "ugly" colors. VPI? The MSU green? The thing is that they're distinctive. It doesn't have to be fashionable.

Not disputing this at all, I only like them because they were "my" colors when I was an undergrad.

There are probably a few oldsters still left who like those Steelers convict striped throwbacks from when they were young.

Of course Virginia Tech's maroon happens to be the school's color. Michigan State's green happens to be the school's color. The uniforms that Pitt wore today are not, and never have been, Pitt's school colors.

Thankfully the Stillers announced that after this year they are putting those bumblebee uniforms back in the mothballs where they belong.

I wouldn't object to the other colors mentioned but I don't think today's were ugly at all. I like them and I know lots of other people do as well. And while I agree they'd be hard to find in a men's store (I wouldn't wear them either) but the unis work for me.

If you want to see truly ugly and just messy uniforms tune into ESPN2 and look at Arizona St.'s outfits. Just stupid.

What are our colors? It seems that Pitt has exercised artistic license through the years, so I'm a bit perplexed what exactly the colors SHOULD be. It appears to me that VT and MSU have chosen to keep the same actual colors through the years.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying using the argument that the colors today would never be found in any department stores shouldn't be the reason not to use them, that's all. There's "bad" fashion colors all over the sporting world.

Brooks Brothers has a blue shirt that comes close. They call it French Blue. I have one. It's my favorite shirt.

Looked great. But, fur me, the matte blue helmet is the best addition this season.

They are hideous
And not the schools colors

Navy and old gold have been established as such and the current unis are very nice.

This was a muck up honoring The Buddy Hackett era not the TD/MNC 1976 look

Throw them in the Allegheny:)

They are the 2016 "Authorized" colors. The question is, based on the entirety of history, what ARE Pitt's true colors? Maybe there isn't any since it's been doctored so much over the years.

My argument is that the uniforms yesterday could be as much our "official" colors as the navy and gold recently or the mustard and royal blue of the past. Personally I have no problem with the uni's yesterday - they are distinctive and unique. I really like the navy and gold too.
