I was listening to the 93.7 the fan show on Friday, 3/4/16, in the early afternoon. During the national pundit sound bite, the great John Feinstein talked about the PITT Panther basketball team. He praised Pitt's win over Duke on Sunday. Then he panned their loss to VT and cited that the team was still basking in the glow of the Duke victory. This is a team back on the bubble and still need to prove something since DUKE was their only victory of a then-ranked opponent in six tries.

He went on to opine that if PITT does not defeat GT and/or win a 1st round ACC game, they DO NOT deserve an NCAA tournament bid. (I found it interesting/fascinating that Feinstein singled out PITT for his 45 second editorial)

He finished by asserting "A Duke win does not a season make" (or something very close to it).

Now, I know he is hardly the first to suggest this notion that PITT does not deserve an NCAA bid. However, he was the first national media "expert" to suggest this though --- at least the first I had seen/read/heard. It certainly caught my ear.

Personally, I happen to agree with him. Looking forward to reading his new book about Dean Smith, Coach K and Jimmy V at some point this spring.

If we lose on Wednesday, I would have no issue with us not making the Tournament.

I caught that too. I wish Feinstein still had his show on CBS sports radio. He had lots of interesting stories to tell.

Agree---he does. I was just listening to him on the national CBS radio show this evening. He was mostly plugging his new book but even that was interesting and made for good radio. He is one of the nation's top sports author/writers.

If you were writing a book about Jimmy V and you told "the whole story" that would be a really interesting book. Of course it would also be completely against the narrative that has built up about him due to his battle with cancer and the fact that he was best buddies with Dukie V.

It's fairly cut and dry. If we lose against SU (and how many times does a team beat a good opponent 3 times in one season), we don't deserve an NCAAT bid. If we get one, it will be a travesty and someone more deserving will be left out. Even if we do beat SU, it's debatable.

Believe it or not, I actually think Pitt will beat Syracuse on Wednesday. We seem to have their number and play well against them. That being said, I still don't think it's enough to secure a NCAA bid. In all honesty if they did make it in they wouldn't put in any effort and lose big anyways in the 1st round.
