According to @Pitt.MBB on Twitter, per Champagine's Instagram, he will officially reclassify into the 2019 class and announce his college decision on Wednesday. I'd think Pitt is gonna get him. He and Justin said they're a package deal

Saw one psn post that a five star is supposed to visit but then another said coach capel is getting some good news soon. I’m assuming these are two different reports, of course for die hards only. Just got back from camping and trying to catch up so not sure if this is old news or not...can anyone speculate on this...

So Quinerly's visiting on Wednesday. I assume the "Good News" is that Josaphat Bilau is not going to visit any other schools, and that it will be the Backyard Brawl for him.

Maybe the deal was if Pitt couldn’t fill their roster they’d take him this yr instead of next yr .

I was going to post at this point, we might as well just take Julian and RS him....or play him if he is ready. He does seem to be like a 250-300 guy for this class, like an A10/high mid-major guy but at this point, you arent going to get anybody better and we need bodies.

It's good news that Quinerly is visiting but it's going to be near impossible to beat the SEC plus the Xavier Johnson "will he, wont he" puts Quinerly in a tough spot as I'm sure he wants to be guaranteed the keys from his first day of eligibility.

Julian picked up a K-State offer a week after going 2020. He won’t be redshirted.

Hope your surmise is correct. It sure would be nice to get Bilau and have another big to spell Brown. We are awfully thin on bigs with Chukwuka questionable due to recovery from surgery and only Coulibaly, who is more of a PF face the basket guy, being added to this point in time.

Do you mean 2019? The funny thing is that in going 2019, Julian may wind up with better offers than his much higher rated brother.......because of the girl/bar/2AM theory.

I meant 2020 because he reclassed back into 2019. He is a good player but I can’t see him coming here with his skill set and the type of player we are on right now.

Summer school starts in 2 weeks and we have 9 players (10 if you count Kene). You best believe Julian is a "take." The only question is whether he decides to go somewhere bigger because I think he's going to get a lot of good offers being no one else is available.

Pitt or St.Johns
We would clearly be taking this kid because of something we thought would have happened, fell through.

It is also extremely disappointing, knowing Kene's injury, that Capel could not have done a better job recruiting bigs.

Capel needs to determine what he has been doing wrong and correct it now.

Maybe he is taking him now because Kene’s injury is more serious than anticipated.

I easily feel Kene's injury is somewhat serious. Obviously, I hope he fully recovers and gets healthy, first and foremost. I'm thinking ACC play/January 2020, is when he'll be ready. Still not sure why the change of heart from Champagnie kinda late in the game??

Easy. Pitt and SJU desperately need players so what's the point of prepping?

This is kind of puzzling. What changed?

- We thought we'd fill a few scholarships with bigs and told Julian we didn't have room in this class but we'd take him after prepping?
- We struck out with bigs, now we have room, so we're open to taking Julian so he doesn't need to prep?
- Kind of a log jam on the wing with potentially 3 wings in the c/o 2019.
- Still no big or backup PG, although I'm not terribly concerned about the latter.

Just an opinion. He will be higher rated and harder to land in 2020. And why the hell not? We have ships available.

Yes. We have 9 players so now we will take him. It's not hard to understand.

X, Trey, Toney, Brown, Chuka, George, Champagnie, Coulibaly, Drumgoole,
Murphy. If I have it right we're at 10 now. Number of scholarships allowed is
13. So if my math is right we have three openings.

Yea, but its unknown whether Chukwuka will play again, so really we have 9 players. Maybe, maybe he comes back in January or February but it's most likely he will RS and play his 5th year at Pitt or somewhere else. If you are Kene, would you want to waste a year of eligibility playing 12 games or take the RS and get another free year of school?

Since you asked, I'd redshirt get my degree and start grad school with another
year of eligibility. Getting a Masters degree would be of utmost importance
to me, especially if I were a marginal (at best) player like Chuka. The all time
example of how to work the system was Peterson (QB) IMO. He came here as
a graduate with two years of eligibility left. He graduated from UT in three years,
came to Pitt, played two years and earned an MBA. THAT is how to do it IMO!

However back to the topic...I think we have three available scholarships at
this point in time....right?

Yes. 3. Kene will be on scholarship but will most likely RS next year.

Seems as if are last 4 semi-realistic options are Champagnie. Quinerly, Nigel John, and Josephat Bilau. Beyond those 4, I don't think there's anyone left.

Joe Jones I think his name is, would be one more.

I've been thru this whole thread and it appears no one is considering Champagnie choosing St. John's.Isn't it possible that Pitt told him he wasn't ready and to prep a year. And isn't it possible he sees a recruiting logjam here next year and simply decided to jump on the hometown St. John's scholarship?

Most people I respect are all thinking St.Johns

Let's look at what he might be thinking concerning Pitt vs. St. John's.
If he chooses St. John's:
- He stays home....he's from Brooklyn and St. John's is next door in Queens.
- He might get earlier playing time. The one position we have plenty of is
Wing, and he is a Wing. He sits or redshirts at Pitt .
- St. John's has hit bottom and is somewhat on the upswing.
- St. John's plays many games on the east coast, and also has Madison
Square exposure.

If he chooses Pitt:
- He gets away from the NYC area and comes to a smaller yet vibrant
metropolitan area in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh as a city has a lot going on.
- He gets to play for Capel who IMO would play him if ready, or let him
redshirt because we have Wings.
- Pitt showed a major jump last season despite being undermanned. He
can be part of a program on an upswing.
- He gets to play in a better conference against some of the top programs
in the country.
- He attends classes at a better university. (Don't shoot the messenger on
this one LOL. I'm from New York, wife graduated from St. John's. I'm
very familiar with the school, its programs, and its neighborhood).

OK...just some thoughts while we wait for his decision.

If he comes here and red shirt I think he would get better competition because he can practice with the team and I think that's better competition than high school kids. Plus he will be here with his brother and he can get accustomed to Pittsburgh and how things are done here.
What do you guys think?

I have zero idea.
But I would like to know that if your brother is going to a certain school and you are not, why would you list the school as a finalist? Why put him through a rejection of his school? If your not going there simply remove them from your list.

Thinking St. John's here.

OK, so 5 different schools, 4 different conferences, 3 different areas of the country. Not quite like the usual "all over the map" Final 4s or 5s but close enough.

I'm going to go with Pitt here. SJU is a dumpster fire, I just cant see that. If not Pitt, I go with Kevin Willard the recruitinator at Seton Hall.

Doesn't that go for 3 of the other 4 schools too. Kids just like to create some drama. I'm sure he already knows where he is going. And so does his brother. Pitt is on the list because they have been the main school for both brothers. And Pitt may or may not be the choice.
