First off, Sean Miller just set an example for all coaches (including our just recent Ex BB coach) on how to reaffirm your position and deny another job. That was emphatic, almost to the point of being rude.
That being said, and Pitt is in no position to refute this, there was way too much smoke here by way too many sources to suggest there was no contact and no interest by both parties.
I have seen these things up close and personal before. Jeff Goodman seems to be as big of a fanboy as Rich Walsh was, acting like a personal agent for Arizona and the Millers. But I can remember a certain football coach who was being pursued by what now is the biggest job in college football and some people got wind of it, and he emphatically denied, even to the point of calling in the local sports talk show that focus's on the schools sports programs and went live on the air denying and stating "I am here at WVU as long as they will have me".
The job was the Alabama job. I knew boosters and personal friends of said coach (RichRod) and they confirmed in fact he was talking to Alabama. He was 50/50, but after being caught so to speak, and realizing he had a national title contending team returning (gee thank you Wanny LOL!) that he decided to stay.
Lo and behold, only 1 year later, he was in fact gone to Michigan. So.....these guys can play all of these denial games and such, but there is almost always at least a conversation or two.
But again, Miller did it right on how to slam these rumors shut. Jamie Dixon never did. Neither did RichRod. LOL
