Kenny Pickett news

im guessing the Oregon dude goes on practice squad, Flacco or Kenny win job and Sanders is third on depth chart.

Just curious if things dont go well, if they'll get desperate and Rush Sanders into a starting job, similar to how Pickett was in his rookie year. you know the fans want sanders the second flacco or pickett fail.

obviously sanders is the future but you'd think a year on the bench learning would probably be the best strategy for him. but you know fanbases, and owners, they dont have much patience.
How anyone can make assessments in OTA’s and go on the air and say that crap is just looking for attention and/or to stir the pot.

In fairness, my guess, because it’s OTA’s, is Flacco probably does look the best. He’s been throwing NFL footballs for 20 years. But it’s football in shorts, and Flacco will look much different when the pads go on and the pass rush is coming at him. Frankly they probably all look good. In other words, nothing to see here.

Pickett will end up in New Orleans as a solid backup since he knows that system very well and the head coach of the saints knows Pickett well.

While I'm rooting for Kenny, even if it means Cleveland succeeds. But it is hard to take the word of anyone within the Browns' organization. They are the most inept franchise in the league.
At one time that may have been true, but the Steelers have certainly shown everyone around the league that "the standard" that Mike Tomlin constantly refers to has changed and that once proud Steelers organization is starting to look as inept as the Browns once were. Tomlin's handling of the teams QB situation since the retirement of Roethlisberger has been horrendous. Not only has he failed to give the players he drafted (Rudolph and Pickett) a chance to be successful, he has signed and traded for players past their prime (Trubisky, Fields, Wilson) and has allowed Aaron Rodgers to hold the organization hostage waiting for his decision. The Browns are on their way up out of the basement and the Steelers have now taken their spot.

What was Kenny’s record as a starter?
He was 12-3 in his final 15 starts as a Steeler when he played the majority of the game.

What is the point in arguing about this with the board Eeyore? If someone thinks Kenny was given a fair shot to succeed in Pittsburgh with the talent and coaching around him, then it's pointless to continue the discussion. They are clueless. If he fails to succeed in Cleveland, that point will still hold true. When he was given a looser leash at the end of halves and games, he was at his best in Pittsburgh.

Yes, cause 21-30 and fresh off the heels of a sizzling 3-14 season is definitely better than 29-22 with no losing seasons in the last 21 seasons (the Browns have 18 losing seasons in that time). I get we're all sick of not winning in the playoffs in a while, but it's led to some pretty insane takes.

It will never matter what he actually does in the league; 150 Pitt fans will always know the truth!

KPGBTQ+ community says that as long as you identify as a good NFL QB then you shall be recognized as such.

Most of us are not contending he’s a good nfl QB. We just contend that this place was a mess when he was here and we are smart enough to know that football is more than just the QB.

Russ and Fields had the same level of success playing without Canada and a better OL.

You sound like ESPN trying to use stats to support a point. I could care less about the number of wins and losses a team has over within a certain amount of time. The reality of it is, if you can't see that the current Cleveland Browns "QB room" is better then the Steelers, then you are just being a closed minded Yinzer. Even if the Steelers were to sign Aaron Rodgers today, the Browns would still have a better group of QB's on their team. Here's the current QB's on both teams, which group would you want for now and down the road...

Steelers Browns
Mason Rudolph Deshaun Watson
Skylar Thompson Joe Flacco
Will Howard Kenny Pickett
*Aaron Rodgers Shedeur Sanders
Dillon Gabriel

May I add, I'm not sick of not winning in the playoffs, because I am not a Steelers fan. What I am sick of, is watching Mike Tomlin slowly dismantle a once proud Steelers organization. He has changed "the standard" of an organization that considered not making the playoffs a losing season and now made being near the .500 mark acceptable.
Make no mistake about it, the Browns are getting better and the Steelers are not.

He was 14-10 here, which averages to about 10-7 in a full season, which is the same record people eviscerate Tomlin for producing annually and criticize Fileds/Wilson for combing for while praising Pickett for it. It makes no sense at all.
Eviscerate…the Steelers give you contract extensions and a statue for that record.

Yes, I am sure the Browns knocked both their 3rd and 5th round picks out of the park. No one can deny their unblemished history of QB evaluations since they've been back in business:

1999Tim Couch1st (1)
2018Baker Mayfield1st (1)
2007Brady Quinn1st (22)
2012Brandon Weeden1st (22)
2014Johnny Manziel1st (22)
2017DeShone Kizer2nd (52)
2005Charlie Fry3rd (67)
2010Colt McCoy3rd (85)
2016Cody Kessler3rd (93)
2004Luke McCown4th (106)
2023Dorian Thompson-Robinson5th (140)
2000Spergon Wynn6th (183)

Deshaun Watson's current contract is with the Cleveland Browns. He signed a five-year, $230 million guaranteed contract in 2022

I think most actually just called out the fact Fields/Wilson did nothing as an “upgrade”

I don’t expect much different this fall either… Hell they don’t even have a QB yet.

Remind me . . . how many wins did Steelers have last year? How many wins did the Cleeve Brownies record? Um ha.

This is awesome. Go Kenny!

The Eagles are 10X the franchise of most NFL teams. Their front office are savants. They spend money where they need to and their drafts are the best in the league. They built their defense from the draft (affordable) and spent big money on their offense. As far a Kenny in Cleveland, I wish him the best. I like for former Panthers to be successful. Don't get all the hate.

Agree. They know who is expendable, even if it means only getting a 5th round pick in return.

The Browns are going to have a good defense this year. They will also have a nice backfield to make their offense go. Probably going to be led by a 40 year old QB who could get hurt easily. Not sure about the Browns receiving corps but then again take a look at the Steelers receiving corps.

Brock purdy would have yielded a 5th round return if he played in the Steeler offense. This isn’t hard.

I'm not talking about him going from the Steelers to the Eagles. The best organization in football got an in-depth look at Kenny Pickett for an entire year and decided they would rather have a 5th round pick.

absolutely. They have a cheaper capable backup for their offense. Again, it’s business.

Cheaper by $1.6M. That's not even big enough to be considered peanuts in NFL money.

Would a team honestly trade a top-half NFL starting quarterback away to save $1.6M and acquire a 5th round pick?

You don’t follow roster building in the NFL do ya?

Derek Effing Watt was making double what they're saving. Will there be another excuse if Kenny Pickett, who will have every opportunity under the sun to do so, doesn’t end up being the Browns' starter all season?

I have no idea. He’s already a higher priced player, who if ends up as a reserve, will be expendable. That’s how it works.

You guys tell me you think Pickett is an average NFL starter (like the 16th best quarterback in the world), yet you're incapable of following the tea leaves that the best-run team in football was comfortable letting him go for basicslly nothing. It's honestly amazing. A Spade is a Spade Kenny Pickett rookie card on this board.

If Philly is such a well-oiled machine that they can afford to go cheap at QB because guys in the same talent ballpark are effectively interchangeable, they should have made Pickett the starter and traded Hurts for multiple 1st round picks and much more cap savings.

They should use AI to release a posthumous Meat Loaf track: One Memorable Season Out Of Seven Ain't Bad. Kenny would be financially set off the royalties for the use of his likeness.

Don’t make generalizations. I’ve never said that. My position is clear. I’m not judging any QB whose majority of his body of work was under Tomlin, Canada, and that pathetic talent around him.

A shot Ben played in the same offense under the same coordinator and did much better.

7,600 yards, 55 touchdowns, 20 picks with Diontae Johnson and Claypool, and Canada was the OC.
And Ben was a HOF player who was allowed to call plays at the line. No QB after Ben has been allowed to do that…until the 2 minute offense late in games. I can’t believe you’re using a HOF QB with Ben’s tenure to make your point. Are you drinking? Just let it go.

Ben, 40 pounds overweight with a shot elbow, throwing to two guys whose jersey numbers were higher than their IQs with a rookie Dan Moore protecting the blindside.

Didn’t Pickett win a few games with drives in the final minutes of the 4th quarter? I don’t care much about the future for Pickett but how can anyone not place a large portion of blame on the idiots that make you the offensive coaching staff and their boss.

Tim Tebow had six 4th quarter comebacks in 19 games played, which I believe is the highest rate of all time. When you get involved in these 13-10 offensively-inept slugfest, anything can happen at the end.
