Kind of surprised people haven't mentioned the Field Pass giveaway at Spring Game.

I really like the promotion for several reasons.

It rewards going to the Spring Game
It gets the most loyal down on the Field for a big game
It's free of charge

I have said many times that one thing most fans have not experienced for 16 years is actually being on the Field. I would really like Pitt to embrace having organizations at Pitt being featured for the entry of Pitt as they enter the field in a tunnel much like what Pitt did for a good portion of the last Century with Fraternities and Sororities. Many may roll your eyes but organizations at Pitt are the ones that make things happen at Pitt on a daily basis. Open it up to groups of 50 from the Nursing, Dental, Engineering, Fraternities, Soroties, Outdoor Club, etc....

Being on the Field for the introduction gives a perspective one never forgets. Seeing the players warm up changes your perspective of how big and fast the players are.

Excellent promotion idea.

MD, the field perspective, I can attest.

md -- a most excellent point. I happen to be a member of the Varsity Letter Club, and we get to go down on the field for one of the early games each season. I really enjoy the chance to see the players up close during warmups; then to see the band come out on the field from field level; and seeing the cheerleaders close up is pretty nice too. :)

But the highlight is the excitement of being right there and having the players run right past you as they come out of the tunnel. I'm so proud of Pitt at that moment it can bring a tear to my eye.

I have suggested that Pitt should honor a graduation year at every home game - except homecoming - where Pitt graduates from that year would have the opportunity to be on the field pre-game (or at least the first so many who sign up). I think it's a great way to create a better bond between the alums and the team.

Go Pitt.

That's a great idea. I believe if you had one side of "the tunnel of people" players run through with a class being honored and the other side current students, it might be a great balance. I would love to see some pictures from that year featured on the jumbo tron, mixed in with some songs from that year and then the crowd cheers for their favorite song as the winner.

Getting fans on the Field is magic and it's free.

Also got the e-mail today. Didn't realize that the field passes being given away at the spring game are for the PSU game.

This is a great idea. Hope they extend it to other games in some fashion. It's a great experience to be down on the field - especially for kids (and future fans).

Go Pitt.

I'd be willing to give up the chance to be on the field (I too have done it multiple times and it is fantastic), if they get rid of that terrible intro they introduced last year and go back to the previous year's. Such a simple change. Hoping the AD isn't tone deaf.

pitt-girl, I totally agree on the intro. I really liked the first scoreboard intro they used back in Pitt Stadium - somehow that one really made me feel proud of Pitt. And the music used in the early ones seemed to get the crowd into it. I'd even make sure I got to my seat early so that I wouldn't miss the intro...

Since that initial one, with each reincarnation the intro has lost a bit of it's luster for me... Maybe it's just time and getting old, but I hope they re-evaluate and come up with something inspired.

Go Pitt.
