any restrictions on what can be carried into the stadium? can we bring our own food (sandwiches, popcorn, water bottles)? clear bags needed?

what's a good option for parking northeast of stadium?

  • All entrance gates open 90 minutes prior to kick off. We recommend fans do not bring purses, food bags, or other items to the stadium to speed entry. Express lanes are provided for fans without items to be searched. All purses will be searched. Patrons should arrive as early as possible to avoid delays entering the stadium.
  • Patrons will NOT be permitted to exit and re-enter Kinnick Stadium.
  • Fans are discouraged from bringing allowable items into Kinnick Stadium
  • All items will be thoroughly inspected at specific entrance gates which will delay admittance to the stadium
  • Patrons are subject to search and the University reserves the right to refuse entry
  • ALLOWED ITEMS: The following items are allowed inside Kinnick Stadium:
    • binocular cases
    • blankets and seat cushions
    • fanny packs
    • small purses (8-1/2 in. x 11 in.)
    • Radios and cameras are permitted, but please be discreet in the use of radios
    • Patrons with infants will be permitted to bring a diaper bag
    • Sealed plastic water bottles (limited to one bottle) or foods (limited to a one gallon clear plastic bag) brought into the stadium are subject to inspection. Flavored water is not permitted
  • PROHIBITED ITEMS: The following items are not allowed inside Kinnick Stadium and should be left at your vehicle. Admission will be denied to anyone carrying the following items:
    • alcoholic beverages (unapproved areas)
    • back packs
    • bags of any size
    • banners and signs
    • bugles
    • camelbacks
    • canned or bottled beverages (except sealed plastic water bottles)
    • coolers
    • disruptive devices
    • horns
    • kegs
    • large lens (6 inches or more) cameras
    • noisemakers
    • personal seat backs
    • strollers
    • thermoses
    • tripods
    • umbrellas
    • weapons of any kind
  • Fans can utilize a bag check located in the Recreation Building to secure items not permitted in Kinnick Stadium. The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is not responsible for items left at gates and the Division of Recreational Services is not responsible for items not claimed at the bag check area. The University reserves the right to eject anyone not adhering to Kinnick Stadium policies. This includes unruly and disruptive fans.

Iowa Hawkeye fan here that lives in Iowa City.

Best options for parking for non-season ticket holders and closest to stadium would be in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics parking ramps---this would be directly east of the stadium and literally 5 minute walks.

Northeast of the stadium would likely be some street parking or residential parking in yards. So much immediately close to the stadium is permit parking.

The Hancher lot is northeast of the stadium and parking is free. There is a free shuttle bus that will take you to about two blocks from the stadium. Northwest of the stadium, near coral ridge mall, is a train that will cost you $10 round trip and take you right up to the stadium. This is a cool option if you have kids.

Have a great trip to Iowa City

A little off topic, other than blowing a 21 pt 4th quarter lead, I had a great time out there 4 years ago. Great atmosphere and the fans were great as well.

Stood the whole game, and so does pretty much everyone there. So be prepared for that.

What section and approximate row were you in? I find this a bit odd as one of the biggest (message board) complaints is about how so many blue hairs get pissed about people standing in front of them and our crowd can many times be "sitting on their hands"

It is actually a really big deal for lots of Hawkeye fans.

Our season tickets were behind the visitor's seats at Kinnick, and since they were down fairly low between the goal line and the 5, you pretty much had to stand to see what is going on when the balls near the other endzone. Because of that, folks in that section tend to stand for most of the game.

I wouldn't park in the ramps, it may take until Christmas to get out after the game. If you take the shuttle from Hancher or the train from the lot on Hwy 6 you'll have to wait for a crowd to get back to your car. I would try to find a spot in someones yard on Melrose Ave. the walk isn't bad and you can usually leave whenever you want. If you do that make sure you check out the sculptures at the south entrance. Good luck and safe travels to Iowa City.

Not a bad idea if you're coming from or leaving toward the west, but I wouldn't recommend that if heading east, especially after a night game. Means of egress will be impaired no matter what, but if you're heading east, park east of the stadium if you possibly can.
