Latest ESPN bowls projections...

have Pitt in the Pinstripe vs Iowa or the Belk vs. Auburn.

These projections are garbage because they really dont factor in fan travel.

The Belk will take UNC or Wake. Pitt has no chance.

We could get the Pinstripe but I think they take Miami based on their NE alumni base. They took 7-5 Duke over us last year, a team we beat. They're not picking Pitt over Miami, believe me.

I think the Sun is most likely now.

I think that Wake's undergrad enrollment is only 6-7k, so if they travel better than we do that's very sad. Pinstripe would be great and a long time coming IMO.

Pinstripe would certainly take an 8-4 PITT team this year after the way PITT fans traveled to Annapolis last year. Additionally, I would venture to guess the PITT fan base has traveled to away games much better over the past two years than it has in a long time. Selling out the allotted tickets for the Clemson game, even following the Miami loss, was a huge testament to the interest of the fan base.

It's not much of a travel for them to go to the Belk Bowl in Charlotte. It's roughly 3 hours away from Wake Forest.

Wake to Sun and Pitt to Pinstripe. If the ACC gets two teams in the playoffs that could change; if the ACC gets no teams in the playoffs that could change. There are also a few scenarios where we end up in the Sun bowl.

So......

SMF is suggesting the belk will take wake Forest... who's fan base is smaller than Pitt.....and will be home by 1am.....

Over Pitt......who knocked off Clemson.....a team that demonstrated they will travel (Annapolis).......a fan base that will stay overnight...and a national news story like James Connor.

Anyone here still take this dope seriously??

Easy, I like SMF. Dude has some theories, if you disagree then great. That's what this board is for.

Lighten up francis. I meant the opponent. Probably a plodding b10 but good for our d.

wait a second Miami can't put 20k in their stadium for game and you think they will pile in for the pinstripe???

that might be the craziest post of the week

Yes. The Belk Bowl, which is owned by Charlotte-based Raycom Sports will take Wake Forest over Pitt. I am sure Wake Forest has many more alums within an hour or 2 of the stadium. Pitt does not have a good traveling history and its not the Belk Bowl's goal to sell hotel rooms. The main goal is attendance followed by TV ratings. Wake sells more seats, sorry.

Pitt actually has a better chance at the Music City or TaxSlayer Bowls believe it or not because there are no local teams or "no-brainer options" for those bowls.

Almost as crazy as them picking Duke over Pitt, right?

Neither Pitt or Miami have a good reputation for traveling so when in doubt, go with the national brand, come on now. You take "The U" 100 times out of 100.

Pinstripe isn't taking Miami based on northeast alumni. They used that logic last year and got 11 people from Duke.

duke brought 83 people to that game although 49 of them thought it was a hoops game. geez do your research before you post. lol

the actual "bowl" makes their money off of the turnstiles . the network makes money off of viewership ratings for commercial sponsors. totally seperate

These are pretty awful.

First things first: McMurphy has Ohio State (along with Alabama, Clemson, and Louisville) in the playoff, which HAS to mean he has them beating Michigan State and Michigan. If that happens, Michigan has no path to win the Big 10. However, McMurphy has Michigan in the Rose Bowl, which would be impossible, unless the B10 champ was in the playoff. The only way he could be predicting that, is if he thinks PSU losing at Rutgers this weekend...I sure would love to see them lose to Rutgers, but who in their right mind could be predicting that?

Shouldn't they at least have an intern checking these for rule discrepancies?

BTW, team Nashville for the Music City Bowl. That would be perfect. Nashville for that. Atlanta for a semifinal game the next day.

You keep beating the drum for these travelling Wake fans. I've lived in Charlotte for 4 years now and I can tell you.... there are no Wake fans anywhere down here. You are just about as likely to find a Wake fan in Western PA as you are in CLT. It is a tiny school that is primarily focused on academics and for a while, basketball.

I think the other downside with Wake is that what exactly does having Wake in the bowl do to promote tourism to NC or Charlotte? It's one thing if you know you are going to sell 20-30k tickets by having UNC, but Wake probably sells 10k tickets at most. Also, very few of those people probably stay more than a night, if that . Wouldn't you rather have 5k+ Pitt fans who all are staying 2-3 nights in town? It's a little short-sighted by the bowl if all they are worried about is ticket sales in a situation like that.

I live a little south of Charlotte and they support NASCAR, Hornets, and Carolina Panthers, zero interest in Wake. If anything, it seems like they follow the SEC more than the ACC.

I want Iowa! Losing to them the way we did the last two years really bothers me. I want revenge!
If they play bad like when they played the Nitters yes.
If they play great like when they played Michigan no.
But I do think we match up well against Iowa and they will bring fans with them.

No, Raycom (who owns the Belk) makes $0 off hotels. If Wake sells 10K and Pitt sells 5K, they will take Wake's 10K ticket sales because they dont see a penny in hotel revenue. The city of Charlotte would prefer the team who sells more hotel rooms but they dont pick the team.
