That was a really frustrating game, and really, with the exception of UNC, the type of game we won all year. Some thoughts:
  • Pickett is going to have to really improve in the offseason. While I don't think it was entirely on him, there are few trends that I found to be alarming that never improved. He leaves the pocket entirely too early when he does have time. He also is always trying to throw the ball through a brick wall when some touch is called for.
  • I feel really bad for Qadree Ollison. I imagine losing him and Morrissey were the difference in losing this game. I thought Hall had a great game and we saw some glimpses from AJ Davis that I don't remember seeing before. It would be nice if we can transition easily.
  • I thought Mack and Ffrench had good games considering our lack of the forward pass.
  • If you want something to be excited about going into next season, oh boy did that defense look good. 3 sacks, 5 TFLs, 6 passes defended. We are going to have a nice little combo of Patrick Jones and Rashad Weaver on the outside next year.
  • We lost this game when we 103 yards and Stanford had none and we still were only leading 3-0. One thing I don't think Narduzzi is getting nearly enough crap for is punting inside the Stanford 40. We punted from the Stanford 39 and 40. I know Kessman missed badly on the 55 yarder but either go for those or try a long FG. 20 yards in field position were not important in that game and he didn't adapt.
  • One last piece of bad luck this year is when Stanford fumbles the ball forward for the game winning TD. Cant' make this stuff up.
