What a frustrating loss. Some thoughts:
  • The officials were awful. I say all the time, the timing of calls matters most. Not only did they miss and then refuse to overturn the clear turnover at the end of the game, but there was a sequence where Austin fouled Payton in the last minute when they were trying to foul and they didn't give him the call. We lost more time and put a guard on the line instead of him for a 1 and 1. The team could have played better but in these games where the talent level is basically even, that is usually the difference.
  • I swear. Pitt always seems to make the other team's "white" guy look amazing. This kid had sucked for games and gets us for 24.
  • Leggett and Dunn were our two best players yesterday. I know Leggett didn't shoot well but he does so much of the glue stuff. Lead our team rebounding, steals, and assists while only having one turnover.
  • You don't need to know anything about our big men other than the fact that our only 2 block were from Austin.
  • Lowe - He did not have a good game. I still do not understand the heat check threes in such a crucial game situation when he was shooting so poorly. It's clear that he can shoot but I wonder if last year he just had more space. In 21 games, he shot better than 33% from three 7 times.
  • It's crazy we lost this game by only 2 when Wake shot 52% from the field, 42% from 3 and 91% from the line.
  • We had a point where we went up by 5 and we immediately gave the lead away. We just don't run a good enough offense to build on leads like that.
  • UVA really should be a win and then hopefully we can grab some road dubs the next 2. Even if we make the tournament, we aren't going anywhere.
