I expected yesterday to be way worse with no Pickett. Ultimately a few plays killed us.
  • Sibley ran hard in the first quarter then he dissapeared. I really thought he fought well on the swing pass on the first drive and maybe the key is throwing the short passes to RBs that can break tackles and not 160 lb recievers.
  • I thought Yellen looked good on the first drive until he took the unecessary sack and continued the tradition of our QBs being unable to complete a screen pass. The rest of the game it seemed like he really got comfortable and so did Whipple. I always think having a mobile QB is a boon but really if he's not quite fast like Pickett seems to be then you don't have a lot of what Yellen showed when he was patient, got out of a pocket at the right time, and found an open receiver. I feel much better about post Pickett transition although we have to see who leaves after this year since eligibility isn't expired at all this year. I really liked how he seemed to hit guys in stride on a number of plays.
  • Why are we EVER running on second and long? Why would we EVER run three straight times. 1st and 25 - Whipple hands it off. 3rd and 21. Whipple hands it off.
  • How is it a penalty to tackle a guy who doesn't fair catch a punt?
  • First Miami TD - who has the RB? What is that? Then it happens again with the TE. We are back to year 2 of this defense with at least 1 or 2 busted coverages a week.
  • Beville has a really weird throwing motion.
  • Pitt had THREE 15 yard penalties in the first quarter.
  • Hamlin great play on the King deep ball late in the first quarter. Haven't seen a lot of that from him or Ford this year.
  • Our team in a nutshell - 2nd and 2 from the Miami 40ish - false start, delay of game. Just a total lack of accountability every week.
  • Hamlin PI in the 2nd quarter - their feet got tangled. That's just as much on the WR as it is on Hamlin. No call every time...except against Pitt...on the road...in the ACC.
  • Mack had another bad drop on the first drive. Wayne had a bad one on our first drive the second quarter. You have a backup QB putting the ball in good spots and we can't catch a damn ball. Its ridiculous.
  • I know it was one play - but the AJ Woods tackle on the RB in the second quarter was very Hamlin like. See some good potential in him.
  • Paris Ford isn't that big man can that kid hit. The hit on the 3rd and 10 for Miami around the 13 minute mark in the second quarter was like a 250 lb linebacker. Can really lay the wood.
  • I'm constantly on Pickett for not throwing the ball away. Yellen does it and gets a roughing the passer penalty. This wasn't a special play but it was the correct one and he was rewarded.
  • I like the fake punt. You just have to make that block so you can get a first down. I'd rather lose aggressively than passively.
  • First drive of the second half - 3rd and 15, they don't call offsides when it could have been 3rd and 10 and closer to FG range. I know we got the 3 anyway but maybe we get the first down instead.
  • Sibley and both Davis's ran 20 times for 44 yards. We should not be running the ball 20 times a game unless we have a lead.
  • I thought we did a nice job on King except for the busted coverages. Anyone can hit those. Take away those 70 yards and he only passed for 152 yards.
  • Great Addison game. Excluding the Austin Peay game, he's been over 50 yards in every game and over 75 three times. The kid is matching the hype.
  • I thought the defense generally played well enough to win but the two busted coverages and what seemed like a quick momentum score after the fake but doomed us.
  • Kicking game was on point (holy crap the leg on that Hedley kid) and it was a nice rebound from Kessman. Kessman is now back up to almost 69% which is closer in line to last year. I'd like to see him around 75% for the year. He was at 76 in 2018 so he has it in him. What can't happen, on the road, against a ranked team, without your starting QB, is getting one TD and kicking 4 field goals.
  • This has quickly turned into the what could have been team. 2 one point losses and a not so terrible loss on the road without Pickett. Now the rest of the year is #4 ND, at an FSU team that just beat UNC, road game at GT, and 2 more ranked teams in VT and Clemson.
