... the Penn State cover-up case.

This time a major feature story by the Washington Post. (from yesterday, surprised no one cited this yet)

https://www.washingtonpost.com/grap...fter-sandusky-scandal/?utm_term=.5ade95064701

As long as the Cultists insist on demanding a return to their holier-than-thou image of the now-shattered past, this will remain national news. And the sickening incongruity of a return to football prowess in the face of the crimes that went on up there will agitate the thinking peoples of this nation.

Little Timmy Curley gave a statement to the PA AG's office (including Laura Ditka) and it clearly contained admission that GodPA told him to change their strategy to report Sandusky to authorities. When the trial came, he reneged on that statement and claimed he couldn't remember. That truth has to come out some day and only then will the Cultists stop.

The 'truth" will never be known because PSU wisely avoided putting anyone under oath. Using your blog to make assertions is nowhere near the same as testifying under the pains and penalties of perjury.
Too many people at too many levels knew enough information about Sandusky to risk having them put under oath. Once a staffer or a football typist or a maintenance man goes under oath, the Jeannie is out of the bottle.
PSU Board saved PSU's reputation from further harm by making damn sure no one ever knew the truth. But to do so, they allowed the conspiracy folks to argue points they will never have to prove.
Now, Jay can say with impunity "where is your proof?" And unless the BOT wants to throw its own university and lower level people (who IMHO saw enough day to day shit to make you sick to your stomach) under the bus, they have to sit around and take the crap these JOEBOTS throw at them.
The BOT spend millions of dollars to keep the truth under wraps and save even more money and salvage PSU's reputation from further harm.
Guess what? It worked.
PSU suffered very little and its public Act of Contrition restored Joe Pa's precious wins.
Instead of getting grief, they should be honored for having pulled it off.
Frankly, I admire them for the way they handled it and they way they have managed these freaks in the wake of the settlements.

Saboteur - a very well reasoned if highly cynical perspective. My belief is that there are books in the work from some of those people that know and saw the hideous things you cite - and while the legal maneuvers are likely over, this stuff will continue to be distressing and frequently publicized. What astounds me is how many kids and their parents just look the other way! The cult mindset is obviously still strong there... I guess some folks just wanna belong.

Perhaps cynical, but it makes sense. Company towns always protect themselves, but here you had a bunch of outsiders with Philadelphia lawyers circling in the waters. There is only one way to get a Philly lawyer off your back and that is by paying beaucoup bucks. But books might fill the gap.

No one put “under oath”?
Are you serious? Sandusky, and the 3 stooges had criminal trials.
I believe it was an insurance deposition, taken under oath - where Tom Bradley and Greg schiano were implicated.
Must have misinterpreted what you meant.

Christ almighty, aren't criminal, civil trials' testimony under oath?
Grand jury testimonies?

In the civil suits...there wasn't a single deposition in the civil suits.

Melwood,

If you want to start your New Year off with a stomach ache, take a read of the lengthy COMMENTS section after that story. Especially a day after many of us had (or today will) interactions with PSU family members and their boasting about beating UDub and how they're rolling.

It is simply grotesque to see program success accruing to fan base that is a cult and still denies that their program has been unjustly harmed... all the while it should have been shut down and bled clean before resuming.
