Look, I know we won, but can we talk about the defense?

That's because our DB' and LB's aren't good fast athletes.
Our DB's play so far off the recievers they have automatic 3 -7 yard free pass plays.

Plus the tackling after the reception was terrible. Guys diving at the recievers feet with their heads down??? Who coaches that?? Youth football players know better than that.

If our DB's played tighter making it harder for the recievers to get off the line those easy over the middle passes would become harder to complete.

Our problem is our DB's aren't fast or athletic enough to play like that and our LB's are the same so they get no help!

I think you are wrong about the corners anyway. Jackson, Pinnock, Mathis and Williams are all capable of playing tight coverage. The safeties are all very poor.

In four years Narduzzi has yet to land a truly standout linebacker. The starting three going in to this season were still solely Chyrst recruits. One of them was a pure walk-on, one was a converted wide receiver, and one was a no-star out of high school. Each one of those guys seem to be great young men, they give maximum effort, and I want them to do well. However, how can a supposed defensive guru go four years without being able to recruit a single outstanding athlete at such a critical position? And it doesn't appear that there are any great prospects in the pipeline, either.

Simple. He isn't a great recruiter AND he coaches at Pitt. Pitt's rep has been damaged greatly over the years, to the point where it is difficult for anyone to recruit well. Especially when PSU and OSU are nearby.

Why don't they play tight making it difficult for the recievers to get off the line?
If they're capable and not playing that style somethings wrong?
Honestly I don't know if they can play that style I'm just going by how the staff lines them up. Maybe that's the problem not the players???

nothing more frustrating that seeing Hamlin lined up opposite the slot guy 12+ yards back and give up and 8 yard slant on 3rd and 7. It's beyond maddening.

The only thing worse would be to line up like this then blitz the CB, which would put the safety in a position to have to defend two Wrs. We'd never do that. oh wait, never mind..

All I have to say about Narduzzi accepting change is this. Coleman in his limited time on the field has produced more this year than Briggs. Yet here we are, still watching Briggs on the field and Coleman on special teams or sidelines. Duzz has no awareness to change, rather it be personnel on the field/staff or his beloved scheme that leaves too many mismatches in the offenses favor.

These guys just aren't good tacklers. They stop and reach instead of running through the ball carrier.
