I noticed that both top prospects for the baseball team apparently are enrolled in school. I was particularly surprised to see Ron Washington listed.

For the softball team, the good news is that Aprile got them another pitcher, a transfer from Coastal Carolina. And, she appeared to have a very good year there last year. The bad news is that last year’s top recruit, who was ranked as a top ten national recruit by some evaluators, is not on the roster so I assume she has transferred. I thought Aprile misused her last year. She was very fast and Aprile had her slap hitting all the time. But, although she did steal a ton of bases in HS, she also was a power hitter. I noticed last year that when she had two strikes in her and was allowed to swing away, she drove some balls.

The volleyball team already was very young, but the incoming freshmen look like they will be very good additions.

I was disappointed with both the men’s and women’s swimming team recruits, but hopefully they will prove me wrong.

Are you referring to the transfer of Hannah Edward ? She went back home and is now at Lehigh. Its not like she transferred to Florida.

And her replacement is the #1 player in New York State who had a pretty productive fall season.

Nish, what do you think the impact will be of three new assistants will be. Bucholtz seems welll established. Hopefully they are all good recruitors.

I hope it's positive. As we've seen in other sports it's usually good to shake things up once in a while. If I remember right, only one assistant was with us long-term and she left to devote more time to her children. No indictment here on Coach Aprile. With recruiting, here I agree with Mike, it's all about pitching. Hopefully the transfer is a true #1. That would make the whole staff stronger.

I don’t really care where she transferred to, but she is not at Pitt. That is what I care about. She didn’t play great last year, but she showed flashes of great potential.

The real key to this team is whether the transfer from Coastal Carolina can be a real ace. They need one.

I am watching the softball team play Utah State today. It’s in Fullerton, CA, which is only an hour drive from my house. They just put the transfer from Coastal Carolina in to pitch the 7th inning (the game is tied 2-2). She is tiny, probably the smallest player on the team. She retiredthe side in order. But, going back to the days of Lisa Fernandez, Cat Offerman and Jennie Finch, I can’t remember a single top softball pitcher who has been small. I mean, it would take two of her to equal one Lisa Fernandez.

Pitt wins in bottom of 7th. Two out walk and double to walk in left Center scores the runner from first. Final 3-2. Earlier, Pitt beat Loyola Marymount 4-1.
