Looking for a 1999 Foxsports.com article listing Pitt's 1987 recruiting class as a top 25 class of all time. I know this existed at one point, it's been mentioned both by Sam Scullio and in a Post Gazette column.

If you can find it, I'll buy you a beer or something.
Couldn't find that one but I did a little work on google and came up with this.

The Feb.10, 1987 issue of the LA Times listed the top 100 players in the nation. They had
Louis Riddick at #3

Marc Spindler at #6

Darnell Dickerson at #10

No one else in the top 100.

The 1988 UPI list had
Curtis Bray #12

Mike Chalenski #31

Calvert Jones #56

Tony DeLazio #62

Cliff Moncrief #77

That's 8 top 100 players in 2 classes, 1987 and 1988.
Followed in true Pitt fashion by the firing of the coach in 1989.

Calvert Jones was huge but quit after his freshman season. A shame Bray had bad knees and Chalenski wanted to head out west after a terrific true freshman season. I don’t remember Moncrief making one play.

Funny Calvert Jones story. He quit in the middle of camp at UPJ. My buddy said he was behind him in line at a shopping center and Calvert had a toy truck he was buying and he was playing with it on the counter while waiting to check out. I went to most of the camp sessions back then and clearly remember Curtis Bray riding an exercise bike for most of his freshman camp because of his knee. That kid could have been one of the greats.

The lines were still stacked heading into the 90s. DeLazio and Dave Dixon were talented recruits but couldn’t beat out Gorajewski and Christy at guard.

Bray made the explosive flashy plays in high school, but I rarely thought he was the best player on the field. Amazing raw athletic ability though. A bunch of top Gator 80's prospects suffered the injury bug in college.
