** One thing I can say is that I was looking forward to this game much more than any game in a long time. That’s a good thing. I don't know if I really looked forward to a game all of last year.

** I did expect us to lose.

** I expected us to lose because we cannot defend. I did not expect us to lose because we couldn’t score.

** And I didn’t expect us to lose by 18.

** I give Louisville credit because they really turned it up on defense, and we simply were not ready to respond.

** I’m not going to look for culprits, because no one played well. However, two trends do seem to be fitting for this team. First, when Sheldon scores, the team scores. Second, when our pair at the two get somewhere around 15, this seems to be the magic number. Tonight, Sheldon got 2 and the Two got 2.

** But the one and only real culprit tonight was how Pitt simply turned it over again and again. Any idea of a game plan went out the window with that.

** Maybe the biggest culprit of all is that the Panthers haven’t yet seen enough adversity. When Louisville got tough, none of our toughness got going.

** There really isn’t too much more to say about this. This game showed that we aren’t quite as good yet as we all hoped. But we aren’t quite this bad either.

** Going forward, our guys just need to learn the lessons this game provided, and just put this game behind them. As fans, I hope we can do the same.

This game was an anomaly for this team imo. They deserved to win. With that said the reffing was awful and they were all over us all game. We had no rhythm on offense. We ARE without a doubt a tourney team so in the long run this game may be good for us. We now know we NEED to work on teams that will press us and smother us.

Yes I know I am an emotional roller coaster but I don't know, the excitement I was building game after game for this Pitt team is pretty much gone.

Still think we'll make the dance, get a 7-9 seed and it will all depend on the matchups as to if we can advance. Just really bummed. Thought Pitt was better than this.

We just went 1 for 2 on the road in conference. That's what we needed to do, and we did it. I suspect the ND road win will look VERY good at selection time. That's a team that beat Iowa, and they are very hard to beat in the Joyce Center.

Anyone before the season would have gladly taken 1 for 2, it's just that you feel a little down with the loss so fresh in our minds, and such an awful performance.

Less than 48 hours to BC, and hopefully a 4-1 start in ACC play

Bummer dude. Maybe you should take a break from the boards then.

40 year olds aren't emotional rollercoasters.
They are mentally deficient at coping and perspective.

We've played 2 teams with a quality inside presence: Purdue and Louisville. We struggled to score and lost to both so I don't see it is a total anomaly. Also, it's not as if we were facing a traditional L'ville press tonight. Many of our TO's were unforced and in the half court.

We will struggle against teams with quick back courts and physical front lines. Young, Artis and Jeter are more finesse than power and JR struggles to run huge O in a game with a guy who is in face the entire game. The 2 is still a problem....since forever.

In fairness those are traits most teams struggle with.

I just don't understand why we have gone so small in our two losses. I guess Jamie was looking for anything on offense tonight, but we needed someone other than Jeter and/or Luther on their bigs.

I think this team needs to play ours to succeed. The offense wasn't going to come, so might as well try to stop Louisville or get an offensive rebound IMO.

Agree...
Not a good game for anyone, Dixon included.

Obviously at this point Ano hasn't played out as we hoped. In a game like tonight, I just wanted them to throw it all out there, even risking more fouls. We lost by 18, but what's the difference if it was more? We have the guns, so play a bit more helter-skelter, to light the fuse. High risk, high reward. JMO.

Agree completely. Actually meant to include this thought in my original comments.

This stuff happens - I suggest a bit of perspective. Look what happened to Sparty last night on their home court. By no means am I suggesting Pitt is anywhere near as good as MSU. But games like this happen. All the time. To a lot of teams.

Agree with those who say we are finesse team. As a result, we are susceptible to the combination of facing a big, physical team where the refs let the teams play. Last night's game was the prefect storm. It was like an old Big East game. We aren't built like that anymore. And because we couldn't shoot our way out of it, we got killed.

Owt's Turnovers in the spirit of the dribbles by DT and last night's game.

1) It is one loss. One loss where EVERYTHING went bad. I mean, we missed FT's. Can't blame that on L'ville defense. Everything we have done well we didn't.

2) L'ville is not that good. My god, they played like well, Pitt for most of the game. This could have been a 40 point loss easily. But again it is one loss.

3) Totally agree with DT in the fact that this team got smacked in the mouth, some adversity and had an epic FAIL in handling it. They have had their way most of the year, and never really were pushed back. Again, you have to look at the OOC. Hopefully this will be a teachable/learning experience.

4) What was most confounding, especially in the first half and first part of the second, I don't think it was that much Louisville's defense that was causing us problems as it was Louisville the name. We were throwing the ball all over the place. Standing around. Just complete melt downs that in many cases were self inflicted.

5) Perhaps MOST DISAPPOINTING and MOST CONCERNING COME MARCH, our 4 year starter at PG was beyond awful. He completely melted this game. What the hell??

6) "recruit better"? Louisville needed 2 Grad transfers from lower level schools to even field a tourney team, so it is not like L'ville had a team of McD All Americans.

7) Defense and Rebounding. We weren't outrebounded by Louisville and held them to 41% shooting overall and 9% (yes, single digits) from beyond the arc. Again, overrated and not the reason why every game is won or loss. We couldn't hit shots. And we had 6 assists and 19 TO's. Don't need KenPom to explain those numbers.

8) Confidence. Completely lacking last night. What happened? Young hit those first 3 shots and we then just turtled. Thank god for a home game against BC. Well timed.

9) I am not sure how you can blame Dixon. What can he do? Again, I posted above, before the game about Michigan State. Sometimes teams lay eggs. We laid an egg. There was absolutely NOTHING Jamie could have done. NOTHING he could have done to change this outcome if the players played like they did. NOTHING.

10) The only thing Dixon can do is take from this game any "teachable moments". But again, when you couldn't hit a shot into an ocean and couldn't complete a simple pass, not much to teach except telling the guys you are disappointed in their efforts and burn the tapes.

11 Bonus in the Plus One) A lot of reference by the announcers of "old school Big East game". No. Last night was a travesty. It was so much great defense as it was just poor basketball and execution. Any one of you who enjoyed that last night must like root canals without novacaine.

Good additions -- much more interesting than mine.

I just wasn't that inspired last night, and really just wanted to go to bed.

how ironic.... it looked like Pitt was playing, well Pitt, but Pitt from 2006,7,8,9.

Tons of bumping and grabbing that wasn't being called.

It's easy to see why everyone who played us then was frustrated with the way we played D.

Good points Recruits and agree wholeheartedly about Robinson. What the hell is right. Guy looked like he did most of the last few seasons. Just an awful game by him.

DT, that is why I did it this AM. Certainly wasn't worth staying up and gathering thoughts. Also, I have leaned from past sins to let some time past before making comments on bad games.

Not a good game for anyone, Dixon included.
Onuaku was scoring at will against Maia and drew two quick fouls on ANO. Plus neither provide ANY offense whatsoever. Dixon gambled on Jeter at least being able to help offensively but Jeter was AWOL offensively too.

Maybe we should have put Luther in eatlier to go all Matt Miklisevich on Onuaku? But, whenva48% FT shoter goes 4/5, it's probably just not our night.

As far as Robinson having a bad game, his game is getting the ball to guys in scoring position. Our SG's never really got off the bus. When we're hitting jumpers, James CAN penetrate but with our non-existent shooting, the Ville packed their bigs in and ruined our spacing. No one could get into the paint.

We can analyze all we want, we just played bad, scared. But this is one of those games where that lack of a NBA 2 guard again on the roster to help bail us out hurts. That being said, usually Artis or Young are those guys.

Well Dicon could have made some adjustments-how many times was he going to let the Ville center abuse our post man before he doubled down on him- stubborn and stupid. Anyone heard of setting a screen for a shooter? Don't think I saw Pitt set one all night. How many times are you going to struggle in-bounding the BB before you do something differently? Pitt played soft and dumb. Jamie didn't help himself of the team last night.

I wanted to go to bed before the game was even over. But then I was too mad to sleep. Last night was just dreadful.

You should have 19 items instead of 11, to match our turnovers.

I feel a little hoodwinked. Think the genius Jamie Dixon scheduling even fooled me this time. Who, besides Notre dame (because it was on the road) have we beaten? Better than last year and still a tournament team but I certainly over rated them.
