Great article

http://www.courier-journal.com/stor...idate-citrus-russell-athletic-bowls/94739780/

The good news though is they appear to be Citrus-bound, taking them off the board for the RA Bowl.

This would mean that assuming VT opts for the Belk instead of the RA, the RA would have to decide between Pitt/WVU and Miami/WVU but dont forget that Miami may prefer a game in Jacksonville vs a beatable SEC team rather than playing less of a brand name in WVU. A win over an SEC team carries more weight and although WVU is a good program a loss vs them wouldn't make fans of "The U" very happy.

Says the Pinstripe Bowl owns Pitt's rights and the Belk owns UNC's and VT's rights. Not sure what that means exactly.

This is an interesting piece of info that I don't think we knew before. I'm interpreting this as each Tier 1 bowl has first right of refusal for a set of teams, i.e. the Pinstripe would have to decline us or agree to give us up in order for us to go to a different bowl.

This is how I interpret it:

Each team sends the ACC their top choice for a Tier 1 bowl:

Pitt picked Pinstripe
UNC, VT picked Belk
GT, Miami picked TaxSlayer

So, yea, Pinstripe would have to turn Pitt down and opt for GT or UNC, which they could do.

last paragraph in the 2nd link.....

Either way, Georgia Tech figures to be in a four-team pool with three out of Miami, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech to go to the Pinstripe, Sun, Belk and TaxSlayer. The Sun is the least likely, as Georgia Tech made consecutive trips in 2011 and 2012. The Belk is said to prefer North Carolina or Virginia Tech, and owns the rights to both. The Pinstripe owns Pitt’s rights, and the Sun’s top choices are North Carolina and Pitt. One possible outcome: North Carolina goes to the Sun, Miami goes to the TaxSlayer, Virginia Tech goes to the Belk and Georgia Tech goes to the Pinstripe.

Where does it say that?

I'd love to see Pitt in NYC. Yes it's a cold weather bowl game, but with the Yankees tie in and the fact that it's not your typical bowl game in terms of the set up, it's generally one of the more interesting games to watch.

NYC around Christmas is awesome but the opponent is dreadful: A 6-6 B10 team, Maryland or Northwestern.

Those teams might make it easier to get that 9th win. Finishing 9-4 is much better than finishing 8-5. No one will remember who we won our bowl game (meaningless exhibition game) against, they'll just remember that we won 9 games and that 9th win would have us finishing in the Top 25.

So odds are probably 45% pinstripe. 44% sun and 10% Russell, 1% other imo

I would say:

50% Russell Athletic (comes down to whether they want Pitt/WVU or Miami/WVU but Miami could opt for JAX instead leaving no good option beside Pitt)

25% Pinstripe (This is Pitt's next choice but they could pass on Pitt for GT or UNC)

25% Sun (this is only if every other bowl turns us down)

I dont see where any other bowls would be possible.

If this happens, maybe Pitt and the Pirates can collaborate and offer a joint ticket package. Pinstripe and a game against the Yankees next year.

I don't understand any of that stuff, but as I've said many times now - we should be rooting to play our bowl game against a good opponent - no matter where the location of the game.

Playing a game against a ranked WVU, Stanford, Utah, or Wash St (in that order of preference) does our brand 1000x more than playing 6-6 Northwestern in the Pinstripe.

Bowls between ranked team so get more hype - we'd probably be in the top10 of all those "Best Bowl Games" lists vs another ranked team.. Vs NW would put us bottom10.. Who would care?

Whether or not our biggest die-hard fans would travel to the game or not should not be a consideration right now.. Last year it made sense to consider.. Now - let's get some hype nationally.

I agree with this. That is how you grow the program, by winning tough games IMO.

I don't understand this new thought among some of the fan base where 9 wins is a magic number and we should play soup cans to get to that number.

Pinstripe vs a 6-6 B10 is just dreadful and if that is our future it means we gotta take a look at our brand and our relationships because something just ain't cutting it.

Miami gets worse attendance at home than us so I don't know how much power they have over us for local draw.

Sun v. Pac 10, RA v. B12 are both great.

Most other options are OK.

The 9th win doesn't mean anything to me. 9-4 is better than 8-4, that's about it.

But we can't afford to waste a good season where our fans would be excited enough to travel to a driveable bowl game or Orlando vs WVU by going to the Sun Bowl. Pitt will sell 300 tickets to the Sun Bowl and its "well, Pitt fans dont travel." No sh!t we don't buy $800 airline tickets for a weekend in El Friggin Paso or Birmingham.

Give us a bowl we can drive to that isnt on Dec 26 and Pitt fans will travel.

Play the best team possible regardless of location and bowl! I am anxious to see this offense against good competition. Road games at NC, Clemson and Ok St have shown us that our O can play with anyone. Let's take this sports car out on the best track possible and open it up!

You're missing the point. Playing in a bowl that Pitt fans will go to is more important to the program long term than playing a better opponent in the Sun. Selling 10K Pinstripe tickets does better for our future bowl hopes than selling a few hundred SUN tickets.

If you guys want better bowls, eventually we are going to have to start traveling to those which are reasonably close first (like NYC).

This is correct. Unfortunately, Pitt has some repair work to do on its fanbase bowl travel history (some of that fair, some of that unfair). I think a game against Northwestern or Minnesota would still be interesting and give fans the best chance to travel. In a year when Pitt is 9-3, 10-2 or something more, then hell yes, it's about the opponent.

Which of those Bowls picks last? That's where Pitt will play.
