I read where Andrew Filiponi say's it's a real possibility that Ryan Luther transfers to Arizona.

Now I am not of Filiponi at all. I can not stand nor do I listen to his show, but I think he has been pretty spot on so far.

I know he reported Stallings exit meeting the day before, was also the one who said Pitt was looking at a Duke assistant ( not Scheyer). So maybe he does have some inside info after all.

At this point, so what. Let him go! A 6th year senior, let him play in an NCAA tournament, I doubt we improve that fast. By the time we get turned around, he won't be there, it's not a big loss.

With his injury history he might not be there mid-season! All kidding aside, I could understand him leaving to get a shot at a winning season somewhere else. He's had an awfully rocky ride here between the injuries, coaching changes, and losing (along with being woefully underused in his only NCAA game).

He should go. Luther and JWF, as seniors are very irrelevant to the future of basketball. Next year is a throwaway year.

JWF wants to stay, and I'm fine with that, we need a roster even for a throwaway year, I wouldn't kick Luther out if he wants to stay, but you are right, it is meaningless either way.

Yea, if they want to stay, great. But JWF and Luther are 2 guys who really don't matter for our future. I'd like them to stay so maybe we can add a few more pieces and make a run at the NIT but even that seems unlikely

Guys--be very careful what you wish for in terms of players leaving. Coach Capel needs to keep a decent number from this roster as a baseline to which he can immediately add to for next season. Next season needs to be better in terms of Ws vs Ls than last (i.e., at least low double digit win total with a couple of ACC wins).

If not a better season and -- despite how good a natural recruiter he may be--another 8 win 0 for ACC season could likely negatively effect his future recruiting success and also not get attendance to uptick at least some in season #1 to demonstrate promise for the future.

Myself, I want most of them to stay and hopefully Capel can 4-5 GOOD players, a combination of grad transfers and freshmen.

My thinking is if those two stay their roster spots turn into scholarships in 2019, when Capel has had a chance to recruit some top players. Luther has been here 5 years and they haven't been real pleasant. If he wants to spend his last year at a more successful school that's fine by me.

Arizona is losing everybody. They are not making the NCAA tournament next year. He might as well go to a team that has a legit chance at making some noise in the tournament if that is what he wants. Sean “Sticky Fingers” Miller does less with more.

Ironic that if he is going to Arizona, which no one credible has said he is, he will be with a coach that we turned down and we have the better coach now, not Arizona. He'd do himself a service if he'd stay and be coached by a better coach in Capel.

You are spot on!!

In addition, to the fools calling next year a "throw away year"!! Hardly, and having a couple of seniors that might demonstrate the work ethic, basketball IQ, maturity or leadership that you want to instill in our program can be extremely helpful in implementing the culture you want to teach younger guys that will be here for another 3 or 4 years.

Stop drinking the punch ! Ryan Luther is not that good to go to Arizona unless he is paying his own way. The previous four years he was here at Pitt including Stallings best year he was a perennial back up. He was only a star this year because everybody left and it was all freshman. I'm not knocking him but you guys are blowing him up way out of proportion. This is not Cam Johnson.

If Luther goes he goes. So what, he hasn't turned college basketball upside down, but he is a body to put on the court for now, A empty canvas to start this Pitt basketball program the capel way,

You do remember the last guy that wasn't a star that went to Arizona? TJ McConnell?

I'm not saying Luther is anywhere near the player McConnell was, but he might do good with Arizona if he decides to go there.

They have no players. They are possibly in as bad shape as us, with the added issue of an FBI investigation and a lame duck coach.

Yea, Luther would get plenty of PT there and probably start but I wouldn't go there if I'm him. I'd guess they end up self-imposing an NCAAT ban next year since its going to be a down year for them

Pay his way to Arizona? Just about every school in the top 40 has reached out and would
Love to have Luther for 1 year. That includes Some
top teams in the ACC.

They have 3 five star players and 2 four stars out of the 6 that are currently on roster. I am sure they will add a few pieces and be a good team next year.

They had a selfish team this year with one senior playing and four guys with one foot out the door looking at the NBA.

They will have talent no doubt.

I think Chase Jeter is going to have a big year.

You can keep saying this, but it's never going to be true. There is no such thing as a throwaway year for a rebuilding program. Do we need to make the tournament next year? Of course not, no reasonable person has that expectation, but we need to show signs of improvement. Capel, even with his pedigree and charisma, can only do so much. Recruits need to believe the program is headed in the right direction rather than treading water as a bottom feeder. Furthermore, the fact that they only have one year of eligibility left is a blessing in disguise. There's only so much time to find recruits now and the best ones are already committed. Do you want to commit to someone for 4 years now or keep the seniors and have those scholarships open up next season when Capel will have a full recruiting cycle to choose superior talent? Those seniors are important, I'd argue they're more important than a lot of players with 3 years of eligibility left who Capel would be able to recruit over. Saying they're seniors and therefore irrelevant is an extremely shortsighted view of the situation.

Sean Miller W L
Xavier 120 -47 - 71.9%
ARIZONA 247 - 74 -76.9
Career 367 -121 -75.2%

Capel W L
Va Com 79 - 41 - 65.8%
OK 96 - 69 - 58.2%
Career 175 - 110 - 61.4%

Who is the better coach?

That probably counts vacated wins at OU

Filliponi was wrong the entire way thru

I call BS. He was a two year starter in a league nearly as good as the Pathetic 12. Tj also sat out a year.
If Luther wants to go, let him. It's his life.

Who is the better coach now? That is the proper question.

The answer isn't clear.
I really can't answer that question right now since Capel hasn't coached in 7 years.Do you know which one is better now?But if you go by the last two years each coached it is no contest,Miller by a landslide! It's 59-13 Miller to 27-36 Capel.

Absolutely right. This past season it was fashionable to say that wins and losses don't matter. Broadly speaking, I understand the sentiment. But I'll repeat something I said last fall: there's something to be said for getting a few wins. Attendance, fan interest, selling hope for high school prospects, not to mention morale and commitment of the players on the roster. NIT next season is unlikely, but that doesn't mean you shrug off all potential wins. I'll understand if Luther looks elsewhere but I hope he returns.

And as stated by others, his scholarship would likely go to a better prospect in 2019 than it will in 2018.

We just went through a season of "wins don't matter" thinking. How well did that build for the future?
