Lyke states navy blue and Vegas gold are history

They'll be seeing me at games in navy for a while longer. Too many decent newer navy shirts with script logo to toss. Heck i still have a few nice things with the block logo too. Mostly grass cutting fare but still. It's all well and good for these guys to change up the look every couple years to distract from mediocre performances on the field, but there's only so much discretionary coin I'll drop for boring .500 and sub. 500 teams.

These could have looked worse though, and I saw no repeat of the atrocious white on white football unis (hopefully), so that's something anyway.
LOL, who stops wearing decent clothing just because there have been changes!?!? LOL. My favorite Pitt shirt is a navy and gold hoodie with script PITTSBURGH that is 20 years old and faded, will be wearing for years to come.

That’s like saying the Pens are blue instead of black and gold. Every time they roll out a new alternate or stadium jersey people aren’t wishing they are blue.

So much more that contributed to their modern identity happened post uniform change (in both cases)

If the Pens had blue for their first 85 years of existence and through their first 8 Stanley Cups.

The new colors are fine. It's not like they changed to green or something. They're bright and trendy, just like muted colors were trendy in the 90s. But lets not pretend these particular bright blue and yellow shades have historical precedence outside of about 6 years.

LOVE IT! Glad the DULL colors are gone! I guess the school colors HAVE CHANGED! GREAT!
Only till the next regime of Yummies take over the Ath Dept and a new generation of kiddies come on board.

Nike representatives will come in saying....Michigan
uSC, Alabama , Auburn ,Texas etc etc all wear their actual school colors why doesn’t Pitt.

Let’s study it

Lol

Seriously, who cares? I keep hearing about old gold and navy. That's history, been gone a long, long time. You can't even find a good color picture of any uniform in the "real school colors".
You’re off your nut.
You must not have seen Pitt play for many years.
The Navy was there so was gold.

Respect the past
The Buddy Hackett past lol.

They should have gone to the 1976 look and colors.

They didn't, and that's that.

The new stuff is kind of clownish but better than the torch cut dinocat crap.

If the teams stink, it doesn't matter anyway.

There is truth to this. ND, Navy, and GT also wear Navy and Gold. WVU wears Navy and Yellow. Cal wears Navy and Yellow. PSU wears Navy. Duquesne and RMU wear Navy. There's just no uniqueness to it. Kansas and possibly Ole Miss are the only FBS schools that wear Royal Blue and there are no Royal/Yellow combos.
Alabama and Indiana both wear Crimson which one should change

Which one would change?

Ole Miss does not wear Royal Blue. They wear a very dark blue. Occasionally they go back to the Archie Manning era look when they did wear an unusual blue much lighter than what they’ve used for a long time now

Exactly
All the way around.

You had a uniform from the greatest Pitt team ever which just needed a fresh design w a slight brightening of John Majors gold, which he picked to match the patina of a panther.

Instead they went with Hackett colors

Clownish is a good word for it!!!

Who cares what those other schools do.

Who cares what those other schools do.
Taken as a whole college fans who want some things and traditions preserved.

Granted this isn’t first regime to make a muck of things so it’s not exactly surprising.

Question for those pining for 1976 colors and design

Do you wear the same clothes you did in 1976?

I mean come on

Case closed your honor

I have never seen so much whining from one person over something like this. I think overall the majority of people like the change. Ain't going to please everyone I guess.

Football uniforms are a little different. Classic is better.

We last won anything relevant in that season.

Our best player ever wore that 76 uniform

The 76 colors are closer to the school colors and are, well, more tasteful. Something that can be worn in civilian life.

The last time we regularly wore what was issued yesterday, it was a season we lost 72-0

So something closer to the 76 look would have been a better direction IMO. But they went this way. At least it's better than the 1997 look.

As many noted, if the teams continue to stink, they'll make new adjustments to this in a couple seasons again, as a new effort to distract.

So for those who don't like, you really wont have to wait too long.

I was thinking the same. Most of us seem happy. Honestly, I went into this thinking that pitt will screw it up, I’m sure I’m not the only one.

So with that mindset, most of us seem pleased enough. Of course a few will not like it. That’s to be expected.

Overall, panther nation seems to be overall happy with the uniforms.

Uniforms never won or lost a single game, Tony Dorsett would have rushed for the same yardage and won the same titles and trophies wearing a navy and vegas gold dinocat uni,

The hoops unis are growing on me. The blues and whites especially. The yellow ones last winter were nicer imo but overall, an upgrade.
I think you’ll see different yellow uniforms than the ones we saw pictures of McGowens in - I think that’s why they weren’t fully revealed and the images appear to have been taken down. My suspicion is that you’ll see yellow alternate jerseys with the new “Panthers” script, which I think will look really nice.

Edit: I also think you’ll see a “midnight panther” variant for most of the sports teams, including basketball, unveiled later this year to replace the terrible black alternates we saw with basketball. The track and cross country teams showed black uniforms with some kind of checker print, which is interesting.

I would of ditched the white completely and just made the yellow be the alternate to the blue with never a white uni.

These are the first white hoops unis I’ve liked in a long time. The blue trim jumps out.

Penn State has changed their shade of blue over the years, at times it's such a dark navy blue that it looks black and at times it was a pretty standard dark blue.

I see you left schools like Notre Dame, Florida State, Florida, Miami and plenty of other schools off your list.

You purchased that from the"gypsy" wagon next to the Hyatt Place on the Northshore and PITT got not benefit from your purchase. They don't sell that style at the PITT shop or official PITT outlets!
You probably paid $ 10 which is what the junk that guy sells is worth.

Miami had the same uniform in 1976.
Pretty sure FSU did as well
FLA changed design but not colors.

ND changed , of course they had a High School coach running the show when it made its big change.

Go figure

Oh btw Granpa did darken PS when he took over but it has stayed pretty much the same.
Nothing dramatic in changes since then

And interesting for those of you who hate all things State, Pitts new blue is not totally dissimilar to the blue of PS whiich Joe changed.

We are respecting the past. PENN States past

I bought it from a store called "National Wholesale Liquidators" I think in 2002? Those stores all closed a few years later. They had two racks, one full of Pitt hoodies and the other Rutgers, and they had the Pitt in XXL and you're right, it was $10, but it's a beautiful, high quality product, heavy and the lettering is sewn on-NOT JUNK AT ALL, still excellent after 17 years of wear and probably been worn to 10-12 Pitt games. And I DON'T CARE if Pitt got "benefit" for my purchase, I buy things to benefit ME, and NOT Pitt. LOL.

By going to colors that aren’t really the schools colors for starters. Pretty damn unique

And going to the past by making them as close to the wonderful Buddy Hackett era.

Unbelievable this crowd at Pitt
Incredible

This. If we're going to re-brand, use the Marino era colors. The lighter blue and canary yellow looks cartoonish/USFL-ish -- especially on TV.

What a PITT fan!
This is one of the reasons why the PITT sports programs barely get by financially! Stub hub is another. If people are trying to save money on this stuff I doubt they donate either.

Question- How many other schools have fans that find ways to cut their U out of revenues they should receive.
Answer- Not many good ones!

And after purchasing PITT stuff at some discount place, buying PITT tickets on stub hub those same people announce that they're PITT fans and post here.

We buy all our stuff from official PITT apparel outlets so we pay more and PITT benefits from our purchase!

That's why it's cool, tired of the drab color schemes on TV the last 20 years, Looking like old men dressed for a funeral.

The ga tech comparison was spot on. Dark blue and a very blah looking metallic gold. Glad they went away from it. Hate that gold. Pens went away from it a few years ago and they aren’t looking back.

Wish the blue was a tad more ‘royal’ but still an upgrade.

LOL! I didn't make some grand scheme to "cut Pitt out of revenues", LOL, I just happened to be in that store buying other stuff, and saw a great looking Pitt shirt and bought it, I wasn't shopping for sweatshirts that day, it was the ultimate impulse buy. And no, I don't PAY MORE on purpose to help Pitt, If they're losing because of me, SO BE IT, they'll keep losing because I'm still not going to pay more than I need to, to benefit them.

PS... I usually get my tickets free, I have some connections, Like for example, sometimes I get tickets from players who's family didn't come to a game through my contacts, I have many times sat with the players families with complimentary tickets. IT' FRIGGIN' AWESOME to get FREE STUFF like rich people do.

Besides being a fan only requires ONE ELEMENT.... Rooting for the team to win, when the game is on, there's no obligation to pay anything.

This is why the PITT program is what it is!

Tell that to a Alabama, Clemson, PSU, ND, Michigan, Mich St, fan.LOL!
Just look at what they pay for game tickets.

Athletics is important to them and their fans.

So none of their fans ever get a free ticket or buy a shirt from a discount store? You're delusional.

I'm glad to hear we are never going to look like Notre Dame again.

I was at my sister's house in Maryland 8 or 10 years ago for my birthday. I had on a Pitt shirt in the Vegas Gold and Navy colors that I got as a present. My brother-in-law decided to take me to a Blatimore Orioles game as a birthday present. I wore the Pitt shirt just because it was a present - I don't usually were another team's stuff - ever.

I could hear some HS or college aged kid yelling, Go Notre Dame! as we were walking to get a hot dog before the game. He kept yelling it; and until he finally caught up to us and got in front to say, "Go Note....." (he stopped when he saw the 'Pittsburgh Panthers' on the front of my shirt), I didn't realize he was talking to me.

The moral of the story? I'm glad we don't look like Notre Dame anymore.

I didn't want to suggest earlier that i hate this. It looks a little clownish to me, but sports is supposed to be something fun. I guess my lament, if i had one, is that Pitt and other programs that do this stuff mostly do so to distract from having crappy teams.

Then again, having good teams gives reason to keep things the same, because there are good feelings associated with that old look. The fact that we've changed colors,, logos, styles so much can be attributed to having sucky programs. That's the main gripe, if any.

As i mentioned, that's why I'd pine for the 76 look, as it was the last time of relevance for us. But changing the color and logo wouldn't bring us back to that level of competitiveness. Sigh.

I don't know how far back you go But Pitt's been switching from a lighter blue and some shade of yellow, to navy and old gold, over the years. This program cover is from Dave Hart's first year. In the Michelosen years previous to that they also wore similar colors but with blue helmets and different stripes and number fonts.

Then under DePasqua it was navy and old gold from 1969-1972.

Many of the changes (alternate uniforms, retrospect, etc.), both college and pro, are done to get people to buy new gear so the teams can make more money. I'm not a fashionista so it doesn't influence my interest in Pitt athletics one way or the other. I just want them to start doing better on the field and the court regardless of the uniforms or colors. But I have no problem with fans who do really enjoy the uniform and branding stuff.

I think anyone who reads this board knows that you think the program sucks. It's a common theme in every post (nearly) you make.

You sound like one of the writers for the PG. Even when you say something positive there has to be the jab about lack of commitment from the Admin.; or lack of wins; or lack of ________ (fill in the blank).

The term, "One trick pony" comes to mind when I see one of your posts. We get it, you think Pitt isn't very good, and never will be again. Really, we do.
