I can't imagine how little someone would have to understand sports for them to think that Madden had any sort of real understanding about any of them other than hockey.
I think Madden knows Yinzers and what makes them tic so he pushes their buttons. He picks his battles.
Look, if you can't step back and look at Pitt and not see how bad things have been, you're really just not honest. The most debated threads on this board in recent memory are stadiums, tarps, script, and what color the helmet should be, as if any of that mattered when it comes to the perception of the program. Everyone seems to miss that winning is the only thing that matters. Nobody in Pittsburgh cares what color the helmet is or will give the program any respect if nobody is watching the "same old Pitt" do what it's been doing for 35 years.

Someone gets it! Howard is one of his radio idols. Take 1 part Doug Hearth and add one part Howard Stern and that equals Maddens radio approach.
He is entertaining and knowledgeable. What's not to like? I remember when Joe Bendal had a show. Very smart but he would have these long monologues that just went on and on forever and were very dry. Prefer to hear someone like Madden. Wish he would have some better discourse with callers.....most he thinks are idiots. It's funny occasionally to talk them down but it gets to be too much.
Mark is praising Aaron Donald like crazy today. I mean non-stop. He has mentioned on several occasions that he used to love going to Pitt games with his late mother. He was also an enormous supporter of Wanny when he was here. I remember him be genuinely upset when Dave got pushed out. I think that is where his negativity toward Pitt started.
When Duzz was hired who was the first person to have him on for an interview? Mark did. then a few weeks later after Duzz had done the media rounds Mark decided that he was a "blowhard". He has stuck with that opinion for years now. He also has mentioned several times that Pitt should make the coaches and players available during game weeks to promote.
Let's face it Duzz treats the media like crap. He keeps the program shrouded in secrecy, and for what? Pitt needs promotion, but it doesn't seem to register with Pat. Pittsburgh is a big league city with many options. This isn't East Lansing, where MSU is the only game in town. Msu wins big game and competes for conference championships. They don't need to beg fans to come to the games. Pitt does. I really wish Duzz wouldn't be so smug and condescending toward the media and promote Pitt as much as he could. It would really help. As mark would say "who has ever beat, he's no national champion, that's for damn sure."

Yeah lacking collegiate sports knowledge aside, it’s always refreshing to hear someone go after the nit wits.
MM has made it pretty well known he was extremely upset duzz didn’t let players talk to the media the past two psu weeks.
yeah there was something that turned him against Narduzzi. Just like he turned against Graham. Maybe interviewing with the B team and Madden thought he had exclusive? It is usually some incident that sets him off, like when Bettis needed to reschedule an interview and Madden took it as a slight. He doesn't usually pick random feuds.
I still wonder if it was more than that. Maybe not though. It seems to be an incident that gets him going. He used to love CM punk, and then Punk gave an interview to the B team before his MMA fight and that really set MM off.
It sounds to me as if Mark may have some issues other than his health that he's dealing with.

Right. Agree. He's not good at knowing sports, he's good at getting people pissed off at him enough to call in and keep listening. You don't actually need to know or have any great understanding of sports to do that.

His average fan listened for an hour and they kept listening because they wanted to hear what he would say next. Agree. Not narduzzi’s job to worry about making the media happy. Not saying go out of the way to upset them, but the team comes first. Any personality that thinks otherwise is a complete narcissist.
Madden use to stop by during the Wanny years to the family tailgate. I was younger and he was very nice to everyone. He likes Pitt but I guess he ran out of patience and the many dumb things done the past 35 years or so.
