Notre Dame was ready to be beat yesterday. It WAS Clemson all over again, maybe even more so there for the taking.
They were back on their heels most of the game, and Book was having a bad day. Just what we needed. Pitt stopped ND's initial drive then drove for a TD on their own. Everyone in the stadium was like "Uh Oh"! The defense played out of their skulls for the most part.
The difference was at Clemson, Pitt came out with a unique attacking offense that no one had seen before. We had all this pre snap motion and we unveiled the jet sweep and Aston as weapons.
We had a line who gave Peterman time and Conner room to run so we were balanced.
Yesterday, unfortunately, after that first drive, the offense sustained nothing. They got close a couple of times, but stalled out and then the kicker let them down. The Punter was back to being pretty mediocre, and the play calling and fake punt sealed their fate.
As many have noted, it was a fun day, lots of sun, lots of tradition, good music, friendly people, good food, etc. But the cherry on the sundae would have been to send all those cheerful happy Domers home with sour stomachs and sore rear ends! They could have been and should have been beaten yesterday for a very special Pitt victory that would go down in Pitt history. But alas, we had to play the last five minutes or so, and you could see it coming, and it came.
Would give anything to have turned all those cheerful green wearing folks at all the rest stops into grouchy grumpy monsters!
What could have been!
