If Mark Schmit is who Pitt hires (which none of us want, including me), what legitimately positive things can we say about him?

1) I see that St.Bon did not have a winning conference record for 6 straight seasons before he was hired in '07, then they remained without a winning conference record his first 4 seasons. Since then, they had a winning in-conference record in 5 of the past 7 seasons, including the last 4 seasons (10-8, 14-4, 11-7, 14-4). Considering VCU, GW, St. Louis, Rhode Island, Davidson, and Dayton have all at times been really good in that time frame, that's OK.

2) Despite being a horrific recruiter based on the rankings (St. Bonaventure's last 5 classes ranked the following within the 13-team conference: 8th, 10th, 8th, N/A, 11th), he managed to find or create some relative gems.
0* Jaylen Adams became A-10 POTY (and 3x 1st team all-conf).
1* Matt Mobley became a 1st-team all-conf.
0* LaDarien Griffin became A-10 MIP.
2* Denzel Gregg became A-10 6th Man.
0* Marcus Posley became 2nd-team all-conf.
1* Youssou Ndoye became A-10 All-D Team and 3rd-team all-conf.
That's from the last 4 A-10 awards lists ('18, '17, 16, 15).

I want to remain positive whoever we hire, but if this is the best we can say about him .... yikes.

That he really wants this job for reasons other than retirement planning and that he is hungry to prove himself at his first P5 job. Aside from that, I got nothing ..

My old man drank his family's beer for his entire adult life...24 12oz returnables, one case a week.

-The best thing I can say about Mark Schmidt is when I hear he rejected the Pitt offer. Because he is either going to get constantly blasted in Pittsburgh, or the Oakland Zoo is a permanent morgue.

-Pitt fans are like wild animals right now for Pitt even interviewing him. This will get ridiculously ugly if he is hired

Please no..oh God no...

he probably still knows some shortcuts ,around the city, to bypass
traffic and get to the Pete on time for practice.

uh, no, this board is thirty wild animals and does not speak for the entirety of Pitt fandom anymore than politicians who purport to speak for all their constituents... Wins and losses determine fans opinions and ire as well as attendance...

Wild animals?...Pitt fans? hahaha....guess you missed the sleeping kids on the big screen at Heinz...

Well, I pledged to increase my donation by $1000 on a Hurely hire. I will drop my donation to the minimum needed for football if this guy is hired. If true... absurd and ridiculous are 2 words that come to mind.

social media is irate over represented knuckleheads and once again does not really reflect anything... there are thousands of tweets out there that state Trump is akin to Hitler while rational consensus or even a six week history course says otherwise.

-What are you suggesting? Did you even watch the last press conference? The press attacked Barnes and Stallings like a pack of wild wolves attacking a baby sheep. This time it will be worse, much worse, assuming the press or anyone even bothers to show up to the press conference.

now you did not say the press in your original post now did you ? You said, and let me quote you , "Pitt fans are like wild animals right now". The press is the press and they need clicks clicked and papers sold...

I talked to my kid about this at lunch today a current Pitt student and huge Pitt sports fan and got, "oh well, cannot be any worse, we'll see. " It was on the phone, but as far as I could tell, there was very little frothing of the mouth...

-Cannot be any worse, means, 500 fans or less at the basketball games, like last year

The best thing I can say is the nightmare will finally be over. There will be no awful team to even watch next year.

This would nuke the program. I'm not even sure it matters who Lyke hires at this point. It is clear she is in over her head. It was Hurley or nothing and Hurley clearly preferred UConn. This is disastrous.

My Dad, too. Until he finally switched to PBR. There's probably a coach somewhere named Pabst that Pitt could take a chance on.

We don't actually know this until we see who the hire is. She and fans had Hurley as option 1, but it's hardly her fault that he preferred UConn considering how bad our program is right now; she offered a ton of dough and he didn't take it.

There are still multiple hires that would be successful ones: Musselman, Oats, Odom, and even Miller or Pitino (sports fans love redemption stories). Of those 5, Odom is the only one that not automatically considered a successful hire.

His resume is ever so slightly better than John Giannini’s, who just got canned from LaSalle today. Very similar coaches though.
