Marquis Williams commits

Okay. He seems a nice enough pickup. Wisconsin was among those offering. Rivals has him as a 3 star and 5-9 165. What service has him as a 4 star?

At this point none of the major ones (Rivals, ESPN, Scout or 24/7) have him as a 4 star player. It doesn't matter. The offers are what's most important. He has fifteen P5 offers including; Wisconsin, Clemson, MSU, Miss St, and PSU (although the nitters will tell you he never really had a written offer).

That's good enough for me...

Great get. This kid has "it" especially for someone his height. He will be a valuable asset in the years to come. Now if we can finish this class out with Green, Asamoah, Raines, and Beck I'd be thrilled.

Never doubt the Duzz!

Excellent news. Can NEVER have too many good players in the secondary.
Curious about the opinions of those who stated Wade was too small after he turned down Pitt.

The only way midget Wade is 5'9".. he has the lifts from the other midget from Seinfeld..

He was either a 4 star at one point, or has a high level of confidence in himself, as he lists himself as a 4 star in his Twitter profile.

Nephew of former Steelers Safety Tyrone Carter. Hope he is a tough as his uncle! Welcome to Pitt.

“[Pitt] will be very happy,” Williams told the Sun-Sentinal after committing. “I’m going to change college football.”

Great news! Im sure us beatimg clemson and penn state last year belped lamd this is one!!

Narduzzi is a beast recruiter

"STAR THIS" he's a really good pickup as long as he can add, subtract, and read "see spot run" to get out of HS.

Why does it matter? Let's just say it's the one you will disregard or talk sh*t on. Good lord Pitt "fans" suck.

I am not in the least unhappy with this recruit. He is a very nice high 3 star.

I am getting a little concerned, however, that those on this board who conclude that Narduzz isn't recruiting well enough to make us a contender to get to the ACC title may be correct. They believe we need to be landing many more 4-star recruits than we have been. Maybe they have me a little "spooked."

I am inclined to believe our transfers in are filling whatever 4-star "gap" that may exist and that we will do better at closing it with recruiting once we manage that 10-11 win season that gets us over the hump.

IMO, this is a really solid class. Symonds and Palmer are the only guys who were not more widely recruited. All of the other commits have decent to pretty good offer sheets.

The overall depth within the program is being built up and is getting to the point where there will be more depth of talent at each position than we have seen in a long time.

The roster is not stocked with a lot of four and five star kids, but it is reaching a point where there is no dead wood or positions dearth of talent.

End of the day it all is based on Nards, if he is what he looks to be and can provide that balance of quality coaching (throughout the staff) and develop a culture where the players are focused, have a real commitment being the best they can be and make the program the best it can be, have fire, toughness, grit and winner's mentality.

Another good pickup from the sunshine state. Duzz must have seen something he really liked from the kid because hes shown a preference for taller corners. Those inroads in Florida should keep paying dividends in the future.

The intangibles you mention in your last paragraph are key indeed. But to add, his defenses have to start showing closer to what he was able to do at MSU. The program can't survive defenses like last year too much longer.

Don't disagree, my sense is that we have more and better quality depth now than we have had at anytime over the past 16-17 years.

Absolutely.
If the defense does not show marked improvement even this year, unless he wins 9 games including a bowl win, the good will he has developed is going to start eroding markedly.

Honestly.. he is rated the #35 CB in the nation at a 5.7, that is pretty darn good. He is slightly built, so he will be in there for his coverage skills and speed/quickness. Always a place for that kind of ability on the team.

Williams looks like an excellent option as a return guy at worst.

I would like to see them take another pass rusher at DE. Palmer gets good pressure from the edge, but Morgan looks more like a guy that they will bulk up to move inside.

Palmer is the 5th highest rated kid on 247's composite rankings. When all is said and done every recruit this year will be within the top 1000 overall which means there's no reaches and they all are P5 level recruits. There's more star power in the last 2 classes but there's also nothing wrong with taking a bunch of P5 level recruits to fill needs on a roster.

Agree. These first couple classes have been program building blocks, addressing the thinnest areas of our football team--DB, DL, WR, QB--and emphasizing the guys up front, which is critical in every class. Chryst did a good job of emphasizing O-line recruiting, which is maybe the most important place to start when trying to build a team, but beyond OL and RB, his recruiting was woeful, and defensively, it was as weak as any in the P5. Narduzzi appears to be trying to pick up where Chryst left off with OLs and RBs, while at the same time trying to build up some capable depth and talent on the defensive side, which was essentially neglected for several years. While Narduzzi's first couple of classes have not been star-studded, they have addressed some critical needs with real P5 players, and are clearly building some depth on both sides of the ball. Other posters have expressed concern about the LB recruiting, and I'd say if there has been one area where Dooz has maybe not done as well as others in recruiting, that is probably it. It's frustrating because we appear to have been very actively going after good prospects at that position every year. That said, I think we have some potentially good young LBs coming up, just not enough of them. I think depth and inexperience is more of a problem at LB than talent and quality.

Agreed and it will be really important to see what happens with the defense under HCPN. I'm not sure his approach and scheme will work in a league where there is a lot more QB/WR talent and spread looks, so if he is going to live and die by that approach it has to show a ton of improvement this year or we might never see us take a next step, unless he relents on his scheme.

Yeah, the LB recruiting is pretty endemic to the program. If it us RB or WR U, it's the anti LB U.
