Mass Exodus Part 2

I said 2 of 4 including Champagnie. So it was 1 of 4 and I was wrong. Still plenty of people said they were all coming back. This time, it'll be 2 of the Big 3 leaving. Maybe all 3. Next year's lineup may be

Femi
Horton
Jeffress
Collier
Coulibaly
That lineup would probably manage to win a game or two in conference, but I think it's a decent bit worse than the group that got Stallings fired.

Last week I predicted 1 of Johnson, Toney, Champagnie wont be back. After learning Toney's family is unhappy again, I am upping that to 2. These guys look like they hate playing with each other. Just a bad bunch. I am changing my prediction to 2 of those 3. Toney will probably transfer to a big program and Champagnie will either leave for the NBA or transfer to a blue blood.

Capel is in serious trouble here.

What was the source for the info that Toney's family is unhappy again? I call trout on this story.

He was playing great and Pitt 1 or 2 best players up until the Pitt played Wake, Tarholes and ND.

Toney cannot make an outside shot after shooting great early in the season. He has also lost his agressiveness taking the ball to the hoop and rebounding.

How are those changes related to the program or the HC that would make the parents upset?

FTP,
NGF

Kene is better than Brown and would be playing here.
Chukwuka’s 2nd year here he had a lower 3 PT% than Brown, the first year he shot 19%. He was by far the worst player to ever play major minutes at this university. His hustle provided some energy off the bench occasionally, but he had absolutely no talent whatsoever.

Hugley isn’t good at basketball. He’s an A10 level big. And he is a shitty human to boot. He ain’t coming back

Doesn't sound like he's a great human at this point, no. But he had a chance to be one of the better bigs we've had here in a while. I know, that's not saying much

You do realize players leaving doesn't prevent equally good or better players coming in.

Correct. But there’s little to make me believe that will happen with his recruiting history (admittedly short at Pitt). Coupled with the pesky little fact that we have a grand total of zero commits doesn’t exactly breed optimism.

There are a few things to remember. No one technically graduates this year and yet freshmen will be coming in. I can see a lot of players taking the extra year instead of playing overseas in the lower division teams. They'll be treated better than a 2nd Div team in S. Korea or Poland.

There will also be waivers for one time transfers. Huge glut of players on the market. I also believe there will be a lot of coaches fired this year. So those guys will be free agents.

I mean yea that's true and we can land a bunch of transfers but:

- what evidence would there be to suggest we'd get any difference-making transfers?

- why wouldn't the difference-making transfers pick a program who has a shot at the NCAAT. 1 year transfers usually cite a shot to play in the NCAAT as a reason for a transfer.

A lot of this talk about the Pitt basketball program this season sounded a lot different just 3 games ago, most of you are fair weathered fans
You said man. Sheesh I know this skid isn't good, but many have taken the "the sky is falling" thing to the next level. It isn't just Pitt fans though. Gotta keep things in perspective right?

I know this skid isn't good, but many have taken the "the sky is falling" thing to the next level.

The problem is that it is not the skid. If the team were coming out, playing hard, and losing as a team, with players working hard within their roles, I don't believe it would be an issue with the average poster. I certainly watch a lot of other programs trying to get to the next level , but without the issues.....

The issues are the compilation of the drama( the Horton technical interactions , Toney rumors) ,unfortunately including credible police accusations, the team getting destroyed at home against a poor ND group all seem to point to dysfunction. Combine that with the fact the Pitt's best player is showing up in the top third of the second round with no commits for next year with a Coach who many still believe can recruit, but has had a lot of close misses, and well Foghorn leghorn turns into chicken little.

I can't believe Capel has so much trouble recruiting here. He gets a couple decent guys and fills his roster with maybes. He plays guys who need to set but doesn't because they might lose?

Some of yinz have lost it. Three games ago we were talking about Champ being one of the best Pitt players this century, and the tough, scrappy feel coming back. Now the program is dying again

Check back in another 3 games.

I can see the top 15 or so wanting to go to programs with a chance of winning. But there will be a lot of guys also leaving those programs who want to show what they can do, get significant more minutes or lower/mid major kids wanting to step up. Add 2 or 3 of those guys. Cherry pick one or two recruits from programs with coaching changes. It will be the wild west this off season I can see each team averaging 5 possibly 6 guys leaving.

Unfortunately, we're just a snake bit program in both basketball and football.

If anything can possibly go wrong with us it will.

We lost a buzzer beater to a team that’s played a lot of people tough.

Then two reallllly bad games.

But it’s two freaking games. Stop trying to be the “I told you so guy” when 9 out of 10 of those attempts are wrong. I still have faith in Capel.

We just need a true center. Other than Champ, we play a game where everything is tough. That’s why the inconsistency. Being able to get the ball down low with greater ease (and multiple options) is a game changer.

Character isn’t built by your actions when no one is watching. It is revealed.
Someone much wiser than Stephon Marbury

Please tell me that you're not quoting John Wooden about character. He was arguably the worst cheater in collegiate sports history and a massive, self-aggrandizing hypocrite. John Wooden is trash. Stephon Marbury, meanwhile, is a big time philanthropist and a really inspiring guy. Perhaps Wooden was wiser, but I know which of the two has more character.
