ND abusing Pitt. Wake Farest pounding the females by 30 end of 3rd quarter. This is really ugly, neither HC con recruit or coach. Administration ought to shut both programs down and decide if Pitt wants to compete in the ACC.

It's a foregone conclusion that our last game is tomorrow. I would hope that Lyke is interviewing and lining up HC candidates already and will make an announcement about a new HC by Wednesday.

I would temper your expectations because that is not going to happen by Wed.

Why does women's basketball get lumped in? Honestly, who cares? They could give Suzie McConnell a lifetime contract for all I care. Its a non-revenue sport. In fact, I'd imagine that even during the Agus Glory Days, women's basketball lost more money than any other Pitt sport simply because the salary you have to pay a women's coach can never be covered by ticket sales, which are usually extremely cheap and not all that well attended even in the best of times. I don't mean to be insensitive but women's basketball is an insignificant college sport at all but a few schools. It is more similar to baseball, soccer, volleyball, wrestling in terms of fan interest and revenue than men's basketball

I like it because I'm a basketball fan and we don't have an NBA, NBDL, or WNBA team here. It's my other hoops team and like a lot of people here I go a few times a year to take my kids. It'll never be a revenue sport, but it is at least a sport that if you win you can get on TV more often with.

And that's fine. When Pitt was good, I watched them on TV a few times. You can be a fan of women's basketball but it is still insignificant in the Pitt sports landscape. In fact, I might even devote less money to it since it would take a big commitment for Pitt to even get close to being competitive. I'd dump more money in wrestling, men's/women's soccer, and maybe baseball/softball

The only way it is possible that there will be an announcement of a new coach on Wednesday is if we are hiring someone who currently does not have a job. In other words, if it's not Matta or Crean there is literally no chance at all that they announce a new coach on Wednesday. And even if it is going to be Matta or Crean it still probably isn't happening on Wednesday.

I would make Coach Suzie clean house and hire an entire new staff of assistants - this staff has done an ineffective job of recruiting and coaching.

Go Pitt.

I don't see the point of buying out Suzie at 2 mil...let her coach the contract out.
This

That sport is the most overspent over-hyped entity in all of sports landscape.
And NO BODY gives a shite about it.

Pitt shouldn’t spend a dime to buy her out in fact they should hire her back if she’d take a cut.

I actually agree with you. I like the idea of giving her a new lower contract once this is up.

If you're going clean house start with the head, that way the root cause is gone. SMS will leave with Stallings or even before. Rumormill has it that there's some confusion in her camp and hopefully she's out the door before the Spring training starts or final 4 ends. This is the time of the year that coaches are resigning and being replaced. By the way women programs with the right coach/coaches can be revenue producing sports without All American.

Young kids like to go to these games and by extension.....

There's some hot milfs in the stands.

There is not one WBB program in the country that is revenue producing, not even UConn (i.e. there's that thing called salaries that kill programs which as it). There was one a few years ago and that was Tennessee when Pat Summit was still around (RIP). Football and Men's Basketball (at some schools) keep every single sport afloat.

UConn makes money at women's hoops. They are probably the only ones. I believe they have a regional media deal for tv broadcasts of their games which helps.

There are definitely some other programs that generate some revenue, which at least makes the operating deficit smaller. The thing about Title IX is that it isn't just about scholarships, but equivalent opportunities. The women have to receive similar support to the men.

Just 10 years ago, Pitt was averaging 4K a game and some of those games had really good atmospheres. That's fairly healthy for women's hoops.

Article from two years ago, since its a public school new data would be slightly different but wont be much so no - even UConn doesn't make $ ... http://ctboom.com/uconn-womens-basketball-lack-of-financial-success-is-puzzling/

DOE Equity in athletics data for last year (most recent) has UConn women generating $1.2m revenues over expenses.
I stand to be corrected. They have turned the corner. He made over 2.5m last year so wild they can actually generate with the salaries. I worked in athletics for a great many years, pretty familiar with Title IX and its inner-and-outer workings.

Probably because they have their own media deal (w/ SNY). You have to be wary of one year snapshots as well.
