026 ATH Jack Lansing Receives First Offer from Pitt

Jack Lansing didn’t have any offers when he traveled to Pittsburgh with Rising Stars 6, but when he left, he did so with his first Power Four offer. And the hope that his recruitment is about to pick up.
Lansing — a 6-foot, 200-pound athlete from Hartland in Hartland, Mich. — was told that the coaching staff likes his film by secondary coach Archie Collins and that while they aren’t sure exactly where he would fit defensively, he has a spot with the Panthers.
“It was really sweet,” Lansing told Pitt Sports News. “It’s been a dream of mine since I was a little kid, and picking it up from a school like Pitt is important. I really like the program they got going here. It’s a really nice city, full of hard workers. I feel like I’d fit in that. The coaches are great, growing up in Michigan, coach Narduzzi is tied to Michigan State obviously. And just feel like it’s somewhere I could see myself playing.”
Lansing has received some interest from CMU, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota and Toledo over the last year, but Pitt is the first school to pull the trigger.

It was the first time that Lansing had been to Pitt, or met Collins or Pat Narduzzi, and he didn’t know a whole lot about the program. He did know a bit about Narduzzi, though, and his Michigan State roots.
“Coach Narduzzi obviously pushes his guys and develops his players and sends a lot of guys to the NFL,” Lansing said. “And it’s a Power Four program, so it was pretty cool to be offered by them.”
Pitt has a recent history of putting defensive backs into the NFL, and that’s one of the areas that Pitt is considering for Lansing. He’s being looked at as an outside linebacker, safety or nickel right now.
Lansing hauled in 17 receptions for 184 yards and three touchdowns (defensive statistics aren’t available) as a junior at Hartford last season. His future is on the defensive side of the ball, and he told Collins he’ll play wherever he’s needed.
“I think I’m a pretty fast guy who can also hit and move well, so wherever they need me the most or wherever the defense is lacking or whatever, that’s where I feel like fit in the most,” Lansing said.
There have been early discussions about setting up an official visit this summer, but nothing is set in stone.
Lansing is hopeful that his recruiting process will pick up, as he had some schools start reaching out after the offer from Pitt became official, but he's looking forward to continue his relationship with the Panthers.
“I really like (Pitt)," Lansing said. "The coaches seem really nice, really welcoming, the city is great — I’ve been here once before and it feels like somewhere I could fit in. It’s a cool city, got good people, people that like to work hard. Somewhere I could definitely see myself.”
