Picking up crystal balls to DePaul. I thought he might be headed to a bigger name school. Kind of surprising but not a done deal yet.

I would puke. DePaul would have the #38 and #53 player. Kids from California and DC. And people say geographic location matters. Not at all in college basketball. The HC is all that matters....well now also the NIL deal too.

Also I see PSU had 2 Top 130 recruits. And the SEC has most of them.

The most surprising thing to me about Capel is how poor his recruiting has been. I felt he would recruit at a level higher than Dixon I and definitely higher than Dixon II. But he hasn't even recruited as well as Dixon II and that aint a good recipe because he was never considered to be good at coaching

When others bashed DePaul for being on his list I mentioned that it isn’t the DePaul of old. They grabbed Zion Cruz a few weeks back whose star has faded a bit over the last year but he was once a kid either in the top 10 or just outside in his class. Obviously we all know what Mintz brings and I still think he’s a bit underrated even after blowing up a bit over the summer. That one is going to sting for a bit.

That’s one of the unfortunate things about presumably keeping this staff for one more year. There’s just no momentum to speak of. A school like DePaul, even with their recent history of being awful, brings in an energetic coach that get his kids playing well in year 1 and suddenly he’s got a former 5 star and a rising 4 star coming in. We on the other hand struck out on the high end guys we chased after the good feelings in year one.

He’s not that good, Kansas and others backed off. Every college saw him and evaluated him and come to the conclusion he is best as a 4th option.

Usually at this time of year available players are overvalued, so it seeming like a bunch of his offers dried up is pretty telling. He's still better than not having any commitments though, obviously.

No doubt. Everyone has backed off outside of DePaul it seems. He’s just another kid in between positions who isn’t good enough to play 1, isnt a good enough shooter or athlete to play the 2, and isnt strong enough or tall enough to play the 3. Should be a solid Big East role player.

DePaul isn’t the best program in their city. They will always stink.

No other big time program wants him. Either not that good and we have plenty of that OR problem child and we have had too many of those as well.

PASS

Right now he isn't even recruiting at a Stallings level.

Disappointing he cooled on Pitt. Although I think Capels ego is too big to keep recruiting him after the decommitment.

no way we should ever lose a recruiting battle to freakin DePaul

I had always thought the same, but our recent history certainly shows otherwise. I'm not too sure I agree these days. We are going to be fighting for every recruit we can get. Just a thought.

I wonder if we kind of have up on recruiting him after he decommitted. Capel doesn’t seem like they guy that would still go after him hard. Hell, we have heard from a number of recruits he is trying to get that they haven’t heard much from Pitt or it’s been sporadic. That’s been a common theme. Unless you are a high 4star or 5 star.

Yeah it's more we'll be fighting the likes of vcu, george mason for recruits.

Thats true, its even so far as to no kid is coming to Pitt with any offer from the SEC. The SEC has really done a great job transforming into a basketball conference too.
