Last season Pitt lost to a Missouri team that ended up going winless in the SEC. They stunk.

This season so far they are #22 in the Top 25 and are 16-4, 5-2 in a tough SEC conference.

This happened in 1 season.

So please spare me to all the Capel apologists on how Capel is on some great trajectory and how his tenure is now some success.

Pitt has made 1 play-in game in 6 seasons and are currently on the bubble to see if they can earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament this season. Year 7 of Jeff Capel by the way.

Sure Pitt doesn’t have the kind of NIL money that some other schools have but to me it's much more than that. This team was supposed to be Pitt's best under Jeff Capel and that has shown itself not to be true.

Is Pitt better than the 2 years of Kevin Stallings? Sure it is but that was such a low bar. 1 play-in game invite in 6 seasons and being on the bubble right now in year 7 of the Capel regime is pretty damn unimpressive. You watch that Syracuse game and I would argue if Pitt had better assistants and a better head coach we wouldn't have struggled to win the game. And we would have beaten FSU and Louisville and even Clemson.

Coaching matters. And if terrible teams like Louisville and Missouri can become Top 25 teams in 1 season - why can't Pitt? Why can't Pitt?
