You ever hear Jim Rome talk about golf guy? Or likes to fight guy? Or corvette guy, softball guy, Gym guy, bowler with the wrist thing guy, or ncaa bracket guy?? They are funny as hell because his takes are all true. I can see SMF being NCAA bracket guy in a bar, telling everyone about the picks he predicted right in his bracket, bragging that he correctly predicted the 1/16 matchup (even thought everyone else in the country predicted the same thing) and how he’s in first place in his bracket poll even though he’s struggling in the other 10 he filled out. Memo to anyone who does this...No one freaking cares. I’ll tell you who else is annoying. Fantasy football Guy. If anyone here thinks it’s interesting to talk about you fantasy football team to strangers in a bar, it’s not. Don’t be that guy. Lol.

Don’t forget about poker guy. Who feels the need to provide painfully agonizing detail of dozens of hands and how he was just about to take over if it wasn’t for the bad beat.

But I don’t need great detail if you shot 100. Anyone who shoots a great score I get the excitement and I’m a bit of a more willing audience. But there are tons of guys who jist don’t know when to quit.

I haven’t listen to Jim Rome in probably 15 years. Maybe longer. I know I haven’t listened to him since texting became prevalent. I remember when people faxed his show and then when it transitioned into emailing the show.

but golf guy, as I remember, wasnt about guys who play golf, it was about the guy who shows up on the first tee and crashes your threesome, with all of the gear from head to toe, who also has to have the most expensive clubs, and who always has to play from the tips because he wants to play the course the way the pros do. He’s the guy who lines up the putt from 1000 different angles, as though it matters to his 35 handicap. He’s the guy who talks about his expensive new clubs and how they lowered his handicap, and is also the guy who’s giving you pointers on your swing when he’s spending half the day in the water.

I give him props. As you say, he brings the delusion 24/7. And you have to at some level admire someone who is so sure that he was right about so many things that he got wrong. There's something to say for the sort of self-confidence that it takes for a guy who so obviously knows so little to keep after it no matter how often he's wrong. Most people who are as wrong as he is as often as he is would eventually give up. But not him. He knows he'll get the next one right, a decade plus track record be damned!

As someone who travels for a living, and that usually means many of nights/meals sitting at a bar having dinner, it is guys like that (or women) you just try to avoid eye contact with. I have been there and done that, and learned how to just play with the phone and stare at your plate/beer and try to avoid catching their eye.

I don't post things I don't believe but I do exaggerate sometimes. Case in point: when I say like its impossible to ever beat the SEC in recruiting, what I really mean is that they cheat most of the time so its really hard to outrecruit them but it can be done. Just a little more fun my way.
