My favorite Bill Fralic memory and game . . .

. . . was at ND on 11/5/1983. We were sitting in the end zone so it was a great view to see the OL operate and the holes open up. This was back when ND stadium held just over 59K and all the seats were fairly close to the field.

John Congemi got injured in the game. So Pitt inserted Chris Jelic at QB and relied pretty much on the run game all day. The linked article below from the Google Pittsburgh Press archives says that Fralic shared CBS Player of the game honors with Troy Benson. But Fralic was incredible that day.

Sometimes an entire OL can dominate a game as a unit. But I've never seen an individual offensive lineman take over a game like Fralic did in that one, leading Pitt to a 21-16 win over the Irish.

Some of us have been very fortunate to see in person some of the very greatest college football players ever to play for Pitt. Bill Fralic was in that category. Just so physically powerful and such a punishing blocker. Gone too soon. But a tremendous Pitt Panther forever.
