My run in with a nitter

Mipittfan,
I grew up in North Braddock. Graduated in '65. We played TC every year. Great games.
Joe

The Scott High "Purple" Raiders (uniforms were actually a kind of University of Kentucky shade of blue). Coached by Fran Rogel of "Rogel up the middle" fame.

Speaking of which, the legendary "Deuce" (RIP) was always seen wearing a Scott High letterman's jacket with the number 65 on it. I know Deuce was a Scott alum, but "65" couldn't have been his class year, as I'm sure he was older than that, so I always wondered what year he did graduate. I also figured 65 couldn't have been his uniform number if he played for the "Purple" Raiders, because he didn't have lineman size, but maybe he was from the days when there were no rules restricting numbers to positions.

Ah, Deuce. The guy was seemingly everywhere (and you knew it was him because of the jacket). I could swear I saw him in the stands at every high school game I ever suited up for--and I played for Duquesne!

Deuce was a manager for the sport teams. 65 was an undefeated season. Rogel was the best offensive mind I've ever been around. I coached with Sonny Thomas at the Jr. High--- we went undeafeted in 69. Deuce graduated in the early 60's , I think.

I have a vague recollection of Sonny Thomas, but the rest of what I snipped above needs clarification. Are you saying that the junior high went undefeated in '69? That can't be the case, because we beat you at our place that year (I was on that team).. Perhaps you mean the following year, '70, because you thumped us at your place (I was the starting center that year). We came in undermanned, though, because we had a bunch of guys kicked off the team because of an incident that happened following our previous game.

I should add, since Turtle Creek and the Grubbs family was mentioned, that I remember some Grubbses playing basketball, but I have lasting memories of the Samsa brothers on the football field. They had two Samsas when we had a scoreless tie with them (that's got to be the most frustrating experience on a football field) my junior year. One of them graduated, but the one who remained ran wild against us the following year. Suffice it to say that we didn't hold them scoreless again . . .

I never met his dad but was he as big as his boys? His mom was pretty awesome as well.
Role stay? Wow bringin back some memories there

PSU is not elite. No one in the B1G considers them elite. 2 conference titles in 22 years is not elite.

You did the right thing by maintaining your professionalism. Good job!

You were never going to convince him to be sane so you were best served maintaining your own dignity (and employment).

He should have at least said Joe knew, PSU should not have honored someone that wished he had done more, I was at the game last week and it feelsgoodman. That would have gone over fine. Sometimes in life ya gotta take a chance. That was the perfect time to take a chance :)

PSU fans are out of touch with reality. The B1G does not consider PSU as elite despite every man, women and child in the central part of our state attending games in state college. The B1G elite teams considers PSU as nothing more that a scooby snack.
Disagree a tad, I recall how much many Rival Posters really welcomed and admired Penn State and especially Paterno and thought they were a great addition to the Big Ten.

However, many times as they grew to know the PSU Posters they started to disdain them after playing them. If they beat JVP they just would trash the Coach & team that did it. Just like did with Pitt when Pitt won the NCS 1976 before JVP won one?

Slowly Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and even Nebraska that was not in the Big Ten yet, played at PSU and weer treated so horribly that wrote letters to Editors. As more timed passed the Big Ten Posters started to see through the Nittany Fans lie about them and soon knew their trashing of Pitt brought them to the Lair as they got banned, and where they could voice their own pride and avoid BWI and they termed them the PSU Cult before anyone at Pitt Boards!

JVP went on attacking the Big Ten of Officiating, Scheduling, and Ref Selections all the same Hypocrisy he had advantages in the East to win his 409?

Once the Penn State Scandal exposed how Paterno Program was not the Pristine Program Preached and were covering up a Lack of Athletic Integrity and Institutional Control, No Code Of Player Conduct, Title IX/Clery Act Non-Compliance Violations, and required Big Ten and NCAA Sanctions under a Monitor they ended the Penn State Bragger Swaggers Myths that Pitt posters were pointing out on the Lair.

This has quickly spread to the Big Ten Fan Bases too as well of all of Sports and why the JVP Commemoration was not just turned into a Joke by ALL SPORTS MEDIA everywhere with not one in support of it, but true Scorn.

Those Media were attacked by the Cultists like the Big Ten Posters and Pitt Posters along with Penn State Administration with Brave Alumni and Media that exposed, reported, and helped reform the Penn State Corrupt Culture of Football.

As known now, many come on the Lair and want PSU out of the Big Ten replaced by Pitt and that just upsets the Cult even more, just like when Pitt got into the ACC and many PSU Fans would prefer the ACC over the Big Ten too?

Since 2000-2016 Penn State Has Dropped to 7th In Big Ten Winning And That Was Under Paterno's Coaching:
1 Ohio State 0.810%
2 Wisconsin 0.695%
3 Nebraska 0.658%
4 Michigan 0.641%
5 Iowa 0.620%
6 Michigan State 0.615%
7 Penn State 0.613%

The Big Ten Fans now what Pitt fans knew a long time ago. The Penn State Swagger was big myth than the JVP's "Grand Experiment of Success & Honor" and both Hypocrisy Failures and now joined by "Dominate The State and Unrivaled" as Slogans of Sins by Nittany Liars!

The Best Part about It.......these Penn State CULTists were created by JVP's Public Relations and has come back badly upon the Penn State University, Administration, and Alumni. It is ironic but Penn State University is now the victim brought on by Penn Staters they were suppose to educate?

Moreover, not one modicum of blame can be put upon any Big Ten University or Pitt and only Penn State Shamed their own Name?

For the New Penn State the 2012 Reforms is when they chose to establish Honor but now Success is Gone With The Big Ten Wins!

He was a big man and old school..

To add a little more, my Wife's Grandmother lived up the street from their family..

No, you only take your chances when there's upside to the risk.

What was the upside? Because we know the risk.

Messing around. But thanks for opinion about risk! He handled it the way he felt comfortable. Who cares unless you're his dad. You alway make me chuckle Yinzer!!!

So, I have a part time job at Field and Stream in Michigan. Yesterday I hear a gentleman talking and he mentions he is from PA. I ask him what part and he says Scranton area. I told him I was from right outside of Pittsburgh (Turtle Creek). He then tells me he went to psu. I told him that I was a huge Pitt fan. He didn't mention the game much but did say we were lucky they had so many injuries. He then went on to say how much the B1G needed psu. How psu was part of the big 4 of the B1G (OSU, UM, MSU and ofcourse psu). At this point i was trying to maintain my professionalism as I was on the clock and representing Field and Stream. I got very quiet and must have had a certain GTFO of here look on my face. He then goes on to tell me how joe was the greatest coach ever, how he was innocent, how he did everything in his power to stop sandusky.
I maintained my professionalism the entire time and did not say a word.
It was so typical joebot.
a coworker overheard the conversation and asked if that dude was for real. I told him unfortunhe is the typical, dillusional psu fan/alum
what is that old axiom in retail ...oh, yeah, "The customer is always a douche"

LOL! I also met a nitter that fed me that line as well and fortunately I was not working so I was able to set him straight.... I said PSU had one only ONE outright conference championship in 22 years I said the fourth best team in the the Big Ten was either Nebraska, Wisconsin, Iowa. He tried to tell me Nebraska was a has been. I told him that they won two national championships the last time PSU won their last one. He just walked away...

I listened to a Nitter explain in great detail this past weekend how great men like Joe Paterno have to be perfect because people look for one little thing to take them down. How Joe took so many kids and turned their lives upwards and how that really overshadows "one lapse in judgment". (Note: It's now okay to admit Joe could have done more while pointing to the notion he did what he was required to do.)

Joe was also pretty poor and chose to make a much lower salary than what he could have elsewhere. When it was pointed out that Joe donated $10 million to the library, that was explained away by Joe's very modest living arrangements and that he was apparently very good at investing and saving. (Since he was unaware of the many endorsement deals and real estate stuff Joe did, it was passed off as possibly just another rumor.)

You see, what's wrong with the world is that the unwashed masses would rather jump to conclusions than recognize the humble brilliance of just an average guy that happened to be a good football coach.

Since I have to deal with this guy all the time and had already listened to a laundry list of excuses over why PSU really won a major moral victory against Pitt and that Temple was just really lucky earlier that day, I just laughed, got up, and poured myself a drink while another Pitt fan ridiculed him. It went about the way you'd expect.

You may be correct. I'm getting old-- it was my first year teaching.

You seem insane, Jacobs. I mostly dig it but you are definitely cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

HAHAHAHA o_O That's the main problem with a lot of these sick, delusional inbreds. They think that even if Paterno played a role in the Sandusky thing, that it was a "minor red mark" on his career.
