Just about every Friday night during the summer
Mipittfan,
I grew up in North Braddock. Graduated in '65. We played TC every year. Great games.
Joe
Deuce was a manager for the sport teams. 65 was an undefeated season. Rogel was the best offensive mind I've ever been around. I coached with Sonny Thomas at the Jr. High--- we went undeafeted in 69. Deuce graduated in the early 60's , I think. The Scott High "Purple" Raiders (uniforms were actually a kind of University of Kentucky shade of blue). Coached by Fran Rogel of "Rogel up the middle" fame.
Speaking of which, the legendary "Deuce" (RIP) was always seen wearing a Scott High letterman's jacket with the number 65 on it. I know Deuce was a Scott alum, but "65" couldn't have been his class year, as I'm sure he was older than that, so I always wondered what year he did graduate. I also figured 65 couldn't have been his uniform number if he played for the "Purple" Raiders, because he didn't have lineman size, but maybe he was from the days when there were no rules restricting numbers to positions.
Ah, Deuce. The guy was seemingly everywhere (and you knew it was him because of the jacket). I could swear I saw him in the stands at every high school game I ever suited up for--and I played for Duquesne!

Will do. I played some games with him where things got out of hand but he quieted em down pretty quick.MI, the next time you run into Donny ask him about the dude he launched at Forest Hills Park... he busted up some dudes arm in bad, bad way...
Believe it or not his Dad and my Dad where buddies... two big dudes ! a lot of old bar stories..Roll Esta, Katie's, Show Bar even Brandywines .... race riots in Braddock.... walk down memory lane..
You did the right thing by maintaining your professionalism. Good job!
You were never going to convince him to be sane so you were best served maintaining your own dignity (and employment).
Disagree a tad, I recall how much many Rival Posters really welcomed and admired Penn State and especially Paterno and thought they were a great addition to the Big Ten.PSU fans are out of touch with reality. The B1G does not consider PSU as elite despite every man, women and child in the central part of our state attending games in state college. The B1G elite teams considers PSU as nothing more that a scooby snack.
Will do. I played some games with him where things got out of hand but he quieted em down pretty quick.
I never met his dad but was he as big as his boys? His mom was pretty awesome as well.
Role stay? Wow bringin back some memories there
He should have at least said Joe knew, PSU should not have honored someone that wished he had done more, I was at the game last week and it feelsgoodman. That would have gone over fine. Sometimes in life ya gotta take a chance. That was the perfect time to take a chance![]()
No, you only take your chances when there's upside to the risk.
What was the upside? Because we know the risk.
what is that old axiom in retail ...oh, yeah, "The customer is always a douche"So, I have a part time job at Field and Stream in Michigan. Yesterday I hear a gentleman talking and he mentions he is from PA. I ask him what part and he says Scranton area. I told him I was from right outside of Pittsburgh (Turtle Creek). He then tells me he went to psu. I told him that I was a huge Pitt fan. He didn't mention the game much but did say we were lucky they had so many injuries. He then went on to say how much the B1G needed psu. How psu was part of the big 4 of the B1G (OSU, UM, MSU and ofcourse psu). At this point i was trying to maintain my professionalism as I was on the clock and representing Field and Stream. I got very quiet and must have had a certain GTFO of here look on my face. He then goes on to tell me how joe was the greatest coach ever, how he was innocent, how he did everything in his power to stop sandusky.
I maintained my professionalism the entire time and did not say a word.
It was so typical joebot.
a coworker overheard the conversation and asked if that dude was for real. I told him unfortunhe is the typical, dillusional psu fan/alum
You may be correct. I'm getting old-- it was my first year teaching.I have a vague recollection of Sonny Thomas, but the rest of what I snipped above needs clarification. Are you saying that the junior high went undefeated in '69? That can't be the case, because we beat you at our place that year (I was on that team).. Perhaps you mean the following year, '70, because you thumped us at your place (I was the starting center that year). We came in undermanned, though, because we had a bunch of guys kicked off the team because of an incident that happened following our previous game.
I should add, since Turtle Creek and the Grubbs family was mentioned, that I remember some Grubbses playing basketball, but I have lasting memories of the Samsa brothers on the football field. They had two Samsas when we had a scoreless tie with them (that's got to be the most frustrating experience on a football field) my junior year. One of them graduated, but the one who remained ran wild against us the following year. Suffice it to say that we didn't hold them scoreless again . . .
Messing around. But thanks for opinion about risk! He handled it the way he felt comfortable. Who cares unless you're his dad. You alway make me chuckle Yinzer!!!
HAHAHAHAI listened to a Nitter explain in great detail this past weekend how great men like Joe Paterno have to be perfect because people look for one little thing to take them down.
You seem insane, Jacobs. I mostly dig it but you are definitely cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.
