After taking a day to gather my thoughts (mostly hold in my anger about the offense), I wanted to give my 2 cents on what I saw from the game yesterday.
- The defense was amazing, I don't want anyone to take for granted their performance because allowing only 10 points to an ACC opponent is still really impressive (even if that opponent is Syracuse haha)
- Jordan Addison does look as advertised, he's probably our best skill position player already
- I also was very impressed with Shocky. He only had 3 receptions I believe, but on one of them he broke multiple tackles to fight for yardage, and he made an impressive back shoulder catch in coverage on a key fourth down conversion. He just looks to me like a real playmaker on offense.
- DJ Turner deserves a shout out, he's been a pleasant surprise.
- I actually think Kenny played a pretty decent game. Sure he made some mistakes (that interception, and the missed throw to Krull), but he still made many nice plays and did a great job managing the game. I would also like to add that I'm someone who is pretty high on Kenny and does not view him as part of the problem of our offense.
- AJ Davis sucks.. no burst, doesn't break tackles, doesn't hit the hole, isn't fast, seriously what is he good at? I don't think Vincent Davis is an amazing back by any means, but he should 100% be getting carries over AJ in my opinion.
- I'm not going to speak on Krull too much because obviously he's already pissed us all off. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, it was just one game, hopefully him dropping passes isn't a trend.
- Hopefully Kessman got all of his misses out of system. Also I thought of the idea that maybe we could have Sauls kick every field goal under 40 yards and Kessman take all the 40+ kicks. Just due to Kessman's inconsistencies
- Ugh... the penalties, hopefully this was a wakeup call. We CANNOT be doing this regularly, I expect much less mental mistakes next week against Louisville.
- My overall conclusion from this game was that this team is basically like last years team. Our defense puts up an incredibly strong performance and we just sit and pray the offense can do enough to win us the game. This is exactly my problem, if we want to have that great 9 or 10 win season, we can't be like last years team, our offense NEEDS to be better. Listen, our defense is great, but this is college football, when we play teams with great offenses, our defense is going to give up points. The offense has to find a way to get their sh** together, I'm sick of watching our defense ball out just to watch the offense seemingly always to screw things up.
- Louisville next week will be very interesting, because while they're not a great team, they have a real solid offense. Meaning our offense will NEED to play better than they did against Syracuse. No more drops on third downs, no more turning it over in the redzone, no more missing 3 field goals, and for the love of god can we at least lineup correctly?
- I truly want this to be the year we can break through and be in the top 15, but I have to see more from this offense to have any realistic thought of that happening.
