Quite the surprise here, but that just seems to be Dior's style. Never real sure about what you are going to get. As far as a player, he is really talented. Reminds me of a Cory Joseph style point guard. Maybe not quite the shooter but slightly more athletic with a better first step. Have not watched him much obviously because he basically came out of nowhere. Great feel for pace and changing speeds. Good vision. Very good first step and balance. Looks like a nice shot and release, but maybe a bit streaky. Not very explosive vertically, but he is very good at playing below the rim. Has a good feel for contact and angles/positioning.
I see a lot of people discussing the risk/reward of this. My question is - where is the risk? Sure, it is probably 50-50 at best that he ever shows up. Or if he does, you would be looking at one year max. Or he decommits and changes his mind. But my question would be, so what? What is there to lose here? The key is, they still have to recruit the position and keep themselves in a good position with at least another point guard. That can be a tough line to walk, but they have to treat Dior as a luxury. In my mind, there is nothing to lose. Worst case, they catch a little momentum and buzz for a few months. Basically anything in college sports right now is a one year thing, especially for a kid that makes Detrick Mostella look stable.
Of course they have to take this commitment and hold on for dear life. I'm still not sure this makes or breaks the program or anything. Even if it sticks and goes well, this staff needs to show that they can develop and coach a team with talent. This type of talent had that final three, and I don't see much changing as far as new offers or NIL deals. Would imagine he has something on the table here in this situation. With that being said, this kid didn't just arrive to the states and NIL didn't start last night. We are in the middle of June now, I would think these schools have had their chance to pursue it if they wanted to. Maybe Capel can reach this kid and can be the stabilizing factor for him. We shall see.
