Don't post much on the basketball side but thought I would offer up a few thoughts. Dixon has done great work here, truly outstanding. But you can't overlook the elephant in the room; the performance in the NCAA tournament is not good. And recruiting isn't trending up either.

It seems the trend in college basketball is to get the one & done. This means you could have a year that it all comes together and you could also have some lean years of not making the tourney at all. We really haven't had any lean years here at Pitt, but also have not had any deep runs either.

With Dixon, I see more of the same. No really bad years, but no deep runs unless everything really comes together. But we have seen in the past when there have been very favorable match-ups and still can't make it happen. Excluding Steve Adams,Dixon hasn't recruited the pro-potential player who can carry a team deep and I don't see him bringing one in either.

So I guess it is what your goals for the program are. Can you sit through a really bad season or two with the hopes for a magical run? Or do you prefer the consistent performance time and again but disappointment in March?

At this stage, I could go either way. I would like Dixon to stay, but won't be all together upset if he does leave. I do appreciate the consistency, and many here won't have the stomach for back to back 13-16 seasons with another coach. And we have seen how reaching for the next level has worked in the past with Pitt.

Isn't every team but one disappointed in March? I know this, in order to have a chance in March, you have to make the Tourney. How many times did we before Jamie got here? It's not automatic and you're right, 13-16 won't get you there!

I get it. So they key is sucking out loud really bad a couple years, then blowing everyone away the third year. thanks for the blue print.
