I remember when Pitt was recruiting him, he would have been the perfect replacement for Gibbs.

Then all of a sudden we quit recruiting him, was it because of academics?

The guy is having a hell of a year for Xavier would have been the perfect 2 for Pitt.

He definitely has some swag and is a ton of fun to watch.

We dropped the ball on him, the Gibbs' brothers, and Kane during Grad Transfer year.

I loved Davis, but he had to sit out a year at a prep school. . I'm not sure he ever did qualify. He went to Xavier, where I think he sat out another year. They accept partial qualifiers or did then. Pitt doesn't.

The other rap on him and Sterling Gibbs was athleticism. We had just lost to Scottie freaking Reynolds and were on a speed and athleticism kick right then. It's a moot point. I'd have signed ONE of them.

Both are probably slower than JRob and would have trouble defendng in the ACC. But, they CAN shoot.

We didn't drop the ball in Kane. His family wanted improper benefits we couldn't provide.

Do most teams we lose a recruit to cheat? That seems to be the standard company line.

Yea no way he could have gotten into Pitt. Xavier is like a Community College, right?

He was deemed a partial qualifier by the NCAA. I don't think it's a Pitt vs Xavier thing so much as a Conference thing.

Conferences such as the Big East and ACC do/did not accept partial qualifiers (I'm not sure if the BE still doesn't accept them, most non-P5 Conferences do which is what the BE is now).

"At least four of Cassell’s teammates at Notre Dame Prep took the classes in question and played their Division I basketball careers last year with no interruptions, the source said. Myles Davis, however, a freshman guard at Xavier, is in the same situation as Cassell. He has been ruled ineligible.

The source said Cassell did “everything that he was supposed to do in order to be eligible — not only at Maryland, but at any Division I school.”

Now, Cassell must find a new place to showcase his talents. He can transfer to a school that accepts partial qualifiers, redshirt this season and play in 2013-14. The ACC does not accept partial qualifiers."

Edit: I think the BE does allow partial qualifiers now. Marcus LoVett went to St. John's as a partial qualifier, the main reason most P5 schools eased up on him.

I think Cassel is on the UConn roster.

The partial qualifier rule has been completely revised since then. Under NCAA rules, many schools can now have ONE on their roster, but they're not called partial qualifiers, but academic redshirts and there are some special circumstances. I think FSU's Xavier Rathan-Mayes was one. To be honest, I don't pretend to understand it and I don't really care too much. I just know Davis couldn't be admitted here.
