Narduzzi is trash

Our BB program has one tourney appearance in the last 8 years because our old BB coach wasn't winning enough for some people.

The OP who started this thread is a POS.
From the Jackie Sherrill yrs in FB to JD in Bb it’s been difficult to maintain interest in a school that administrators have sabotaged its athletic teams so often . I really enjoy Pitt Bb , but I now only have minimal interest in Fb .

The last time the administration held Pitt back in athletics was almost 30 years ago. Pitt is a 3-star fanbase that gets 3-star results.

Let me see, they hired Steve Petersen twice, the wife beater, Todd Graham, Paul Chryst, the most fantastic DC of all time and Stallings ….other than that the admin has been really very supportive of Pitt athletics. Your Schtick is both stale and completely wrong.😂

We were absolute trash in all areas of athletics when Steve P. took over in 1995. When he left we were Top 20 in football and basketball and the Olympic Complex was initiated under his watch. His second tenure was average, but at least we got into the ACC.

Graham and Chryst were .500 coaches. Stallings was an awful hire, but it’s not like the administration made the hire. Barnes screwed the pooch. You can blame the morons (Gallagher) who thought we could do better than the tenure under Dixon.

Since when is the AD not part of the university admin….. ridiculous take! Petersen… the idiot who got the ball rolling on tearing down Pitt stadium then prompting the most embarrassing coaching carousel in ncaa FBhistory. You may as well have waved the white flag with your lame response.

I like Pitt football a lot better at Heinz/Acrisure than I did at Pitt Stadium. That's just me.

To me the game day experience goes beyond watching the game. I am a Pitt undergrad and grad school guy, live 7 hours away from Pittsburgh, have season tix and would love to go back to campus and relive a lot of great memories.

Understood.

But you reliving great memories is not always what is best to help the program keep up with the Joneses going forward.

You can still go back to campus. You probably have made more great memories over the past 20+ years. I know it's not like growing up and then the college years. I get it, but times and circumstances change.

Understood….but you want to grow the fan base and increase financial support. You do that by getting an perecentage of every class of grads to become program supporters and you do that strengthening the bond between alums and the school, and that ain’t happening by tailgating under an overpass on the North Shore. There’s the reason that 99.9% and a half of college programs play on campus. That’s no accident!

People like me are busy…we don’t have the time to take an extra day or two when we come to Pittsburgh to visit Oakland. We get to Pittsburgh, go to the game and return home the next day. That’s reality.

I think the base, interest, and financial support are better now than it was in 1999.

Student support has been better at Heinz/Acrisure. Students couldn’t be bothered to attend games at Pitt Stadium in the early to mid-90’s unless it was a big name opponent.

This fan base hasn’t increased much, if at all, from 1999. At least 50 percent of the fan base consists of diehards from the glory days. The only reason financial support has increased somewhat over the last 25 years is because the program was practically moribund in the late 90’s and ascended to mediocrity since then. The fan base and financial support isn’t what it should be, and I contend the stadium issue is one of the reasons.

Yea, and after they graduate they disappear…that’s the issue! Pitt essentially gave up FB in the 90’s( they were horrible)so that anyone using the 90’s as the basis of comparison versus today for student or total attendance is just comparing apples to oranges. Playing in the Northside slums in of itself has had nothing to do with increased attendance today versus the 90’s at Pitt Stadium. Has everything to do with the on the field product. Pitt had one season in the 90’s with a winning record!

Would you like to use mid 80’s to late 80’s? There were globs of empty seats throughout Pitt Stadium including the student section for most games.

1984 - Shortly removed from our glory years and the only game that was well attended was WVU.

Here’s what you and others don’t get…you build a fan base over years and not overnight. With the exception of a couple of seasons Pitt stunk from 1950-1974. They had no sizeable fan base when Majors started, and you don’t create one out of thin air. They were starting to slowly grow attendance by Marino’s senior year, and then Pitt screwed the pooch by pushing Sherrill out, pushing Gottfried out and hiring that bum, Hackett. Since that point in in time, Pitt FB has been nothing more than a roller coaster with deep dips and low peaks. Penn St started with a 35,000 seat stadium and it took them decades to get where they are today but that was made possible by one factor…..consistent winning and support of FB, something that the knuckleheads at Pitt couldn’t achieve because of a lack of commitment and mismanagement .

The idea that 6 years of good FB were going to create a fan base out thin air where one hadn’t existed since the 1930’s is sheer lunacy.

Excuses are like a-holes. Everyone has one.

And at a P4 school the average winning percentage is right around 58%.
People are nuts
Listen - pushing out the most successful basketball coach was a mistake .

I’m very happy we had the 2021 season - but the program is just as mediocre now as it was when he was hired .
And his defense is a big reason why .

It's pathetic since their lives are miserable so they thrive on negativity to make others miserable. H2P
I sold my Clemson club seats for a premium prior to the UVA game -

Guess I’m a troll
Where are your tickets ?

Title says it all. He’s average at best. The longer he stays the longer they’re not serious about taking the next step.

He’s gone so far backwards after winning the ACC it’s depressing
I don’t know if he is trash. However I have a sneaking feeling he has poked his nose into Cade’s business more than he had at beginning of season.

Opener against BYU, ranked #3 to start the season, only 40k in the stands. Next to last game ever in Pitt stadium, beautiful day against Miami, only 35k

Which was a complete outlier year based off of history. I’ve been hearing people call narduzzi trash well before that 3 win season.
Yea, he’s a 7 win coach…let’s hold a parade celebrating his treading water for a decade….oh, yea he had that one magical season in which despite his defensive prowess( what a joke) couldn’t control powerful WM and embarrassed Pitt nationally.

Respectfully-
WVU and Cincy are both 5-4 and it took 4th quarter comebacks from double digits to win.
Maybe we shouldn’t throw stones
Since we for housed by the only good team we’ve played so far

Biggest game on the home schedule and you bail? Wow….never ceases to amaze.
Kid has a recital .
Happy to miss the game
Helped subsidize my tickets
Next time you can each for $200 from me and fill it with friends .

My priorities aren’t attending a game .
Pitt got my money and donations per each of of my
West club seats

Oh, you’re such a social butterfly and gees club seats( wow…impressed….not)…. I have season tickets…don’t need yours in your lame efforts to subsidize your luke warm support of Pitt FB.

He’s a mediocre coach .
The progam has not improved or sustained over his decade .

I honestly think the ceiling for Pitt is a 7 to 8 win program on a regular basis, with some flash seasons and some drop off seasons baked in there. You can have nick saban come in and it will be that way. We don’t have the support or the culture. And quite honestly, most programs are like that, some without the roadblocks we have.

He may be mediocre overall, but he is the only coach in over 40 years to take us to a 10 win season, a conference championship, and hasn’t seen the rails come off for a long period of time.

I don’t think that is a trash coach as the op was saying.

Well you can absolutely forget about the prospect of growing the fan base and increasing financial support with a HC who delivers those type results. He’s a MAC level HC.

Football is only entertainment to me
If you make up the financial support I give -
I’ll stay home or golf instead .

You seem to want to shrink the fanbase and boosters , if they don’t meet your purity tests

Bingo! Each game away from campus is a visit lost to enhance nostalgia and relive old memories on campus that leads to a greater love for Pitt and results in increased alumni donations. Six or seven times each fall is a missed opportunity to visit campus. A game off-campus isn't a game or visit to Pitt. It's a game and visit to the North Shore.

This is a note for any that read the above post.

Steve Pederson did not make the decision to tear down Pitt Stadium. Nordenburg essentially did not make this decision either.

The commonwealth of PA, led by Ed Rendell, strong armed Pitt to move downtown, and threatened Pitt funding if they said no.

Now, you can debate all you want...and some that know more may tweak the actual events leading to this place.

But the bottom line is this: Pederson.....with all his mistakes.....was NOT the person who made this decision.

The fact that Islander Panther claims he is (was) should disqualify pretty much everything this guy says.

The end

Anyone who thinks an AD or even the chancellor can make capital decisions on facilities in a vacuum is an absolutely ignorant moron .
Hint - there is a reason why the state was involved with funding .
