He went 8-4 the first 2 years thanks in large part to Chryst leaving him very good offensive talent. Once those guys left:

5-7
7-6
7-5
6-5
***11-2*** 100% due to Covid
9-3
3-9
7-5

Lost 5 or more games in 6 out of the last 8 years. That's as bad an 8 year stretch that Pitt has had besides Majors 2. The Kenny Covid year is in the middle of that but that's an extreme outlier. Narduzzi is better than Chryst. He's better than Graham. But he isnt better than Walt or Wanny. This has largely been a 10 year waste of time and things are trending even worse. But we are stuck unless we can strike a deal with him to go be a DC somewhere and pay him the difference.

Chryst also left a bad front seven and not a single QB worth a damn. Got one year of Boyd at WR, but the other WRs were mid at best.

No Pitt outgoing coach since Gottfried has ever left a stocked cupboard.

Yea but my point is once Narduzzi got all HIS GUYS in there, we started losing 5+ every year unless a pandemic hits.

The trend hasn’t been very good and the last two years this team has lacked talent. As good as the start of the year was, that is how bad this team looked during the losing streak. Other than Clemson, at no point did Pitt look like the more talented team.

Yep...and the lack of talent was a huge blinking light!

Narduzzi's record aligns perfectly with his QB and OL talent, which isn't just a Narduzzi thing.
He deserves criticism like any coach for the losing streak but my concern is our NIL budget means any head coach here would have problems affording depth on offensive line and keeping top QBs from transferring out (not saying the latter has been a problem yet but could hurt our ceiling.)

Was it bad? Brima and Grigsby did more in the NFL than they did with Narduzzi. Same can be said for Pitts and Lewis in the secondary.

Price got drafted. Soho and Jarrett were decent.

Most coaches take over bad rosters. That's how it works. But his was better than most, because the previous coach wasn't fired for performance. So it's not like he got a 2-10 team.

What is the Pitt NIL budget?

We play in the ACC. Only SMU, FSU, Clem, and Miami will have a significantly higher player payroll and we'll only play 1-2 of them per year. The NIL thing is an excuse. We arent competing with Ohio State for players and not even PSU anymore as Narduzzi has conceded Western PA. If we cant beat UVa and BC, that's a problem.

With talent of players we do get, it's realistic that Pitt is a 9 win team every year I feel. I don't think is a pipe dream I'm talking. 6 and 7 wins just seem too low for the talent we do get and see. So seeing the amount of non 9 win seasons is disturbing. I'm not saying we make ACC championship every year but least be a top 35-40 team flirting with top 25 yearly. Top 5 or 6 in ACC , with every few years the double digit win seasons.

I look at the other offers our commits are receiving and it is nauseating. My question is,

Is this all we can afford? I mean....coastal carolina can't offer a receiver the same $$ that Ga Tech can. Are we that deficient?

Or....are we taking marginal high school kids and spending our money on transfers?

Im just curious as to some type of strategy here.

Its hard now because before Narduzzi offers someone, he has to run it by Franklin first. "James, I like this WR and want to offer him but I dont want to waste my time. Do you think he wants to ride your bench for 5 years instead of actually playing?"

Yes it was bad. I said the front 7, not the secondary. I think you meant Bradley, who was meh as were Soto and Jarrett. Had Grigsby one year, and I think him, Jarrett and Price were Graham recruits. Chryst was horrible recruiting the front 7.

I also said most outgoing coaches don't leave much so we agree on that.

I think you could say the total body of work over a decade has been underwhelming, but I don't think you can call it a waste. He delivered the best season I've witnessed in my lifetime and I am 41 years old and he deserves credit for that year.

I also don't know how you can think Wanny is better. I can see the argument that they are even, but Wanny was not better. Yes the Western Michigan loss was incredbily disappointing, but Wanny served up a loss like that seemingly every year.

I do think it is hilarious that we are going to sell short Narduzzi for getting our ONLY conference championship ever, while claiming Walt (a coach who did admirably turning around a ship on fire, but was always mediocre) or Wanny (who was losing in a weak Big East to teams like UCONN and Cincy).

If Narduzzi had Wanny's recruiting backing, he'd be winning 8 games minimum per season.

This, again comes down to the environment we play in, not the coach. We do not have the talent or depth to compete across a full season. We do not have this because we do not fund it. I hope Pat leaves to go to a school with money so we can all continue to wallow at 6-6 with some G5 stepping stoner or an alumni.

Keep hoping. And keep telling yourself it's everything but the coach.

The fact that no such school--including the one where he had his greatest success as a coordinator--has been seriously interested in him in 10 years should tell you all you need to know.

You left out UNC, GaTech, NC State, VaTech and Virginia.
