Narduzzi's Press Conference; Please interpret this for me.

He said kid will be kids .... so we made a few mistakes... things will be fine as long as the team learns from their blunders.... very convincing

He's looking at snapshots... Individual plays and the mistakes that took place. It seems like he's not watching the motion picture that shows these mistakes happening over and over for 4 years.
That’s well-put. And he’s been doing that exact same routine for 4 years.

In other words:
Not seeing the forest for the trees.

It’s mind boggling that he is so worried about giving up 50 yard runs, yet doesn’t realize teams still run for huge chunks at a time in between throwing the ball downfield all day like it’s nothing. For a guy so worried about giving up big plays, you’d think he’d notice the alarming rate of big plays given up.

It sure appears that way to this point. The characteristic you describe is always a concern when hiring someone to be a major college HC who has never been a college (or pro) HC previously.

Oversight of all aspects of an entire program is an entirely new experience for someone who has only been an assistant and had to focus solely on 1 side of the ball; never had to hire (or fire) an entire staff; be responsible for an overall recrutitng effort; etc. Some turn out OK. Others don't (see Fazio, Foge; Hackett; Paul).

But a P5 level program giving a first time ever HC OJT can be a very risky business because there is no prior track record as a HC to rely on. Hopefully Duzz flips the switch soon and turns into a great HC at Pitt. But we certainly don't know if he will at the present time based on what we're seeing.

He keeps going back to we just need to make a few more plays. This is his mantra every week. Well why is it Pat that every week your guys just need to make a few more plays? Maybe a little better coaching will put them in a position to make a few more plays.

That's why he keeps notes on the sideline, so he knows where the KIDS f'd up not the coaches.
