It’s amazing that the NCAA title game is being broadcast after 9 pm on the east coast. NOLA is only Central Time. I am glad I am retired and live in a Pacific Time Zone.

8:30 seems like it would be better. Its 5:30 in the Pacific Time Zone but only 63 million people live out there and they're usually surfing or skateboarding after work anyway. 250 million live in the Eastern and Central time zones. The Pacific time zone gets too much consideration for these events.

I think it is great for kids. It helps toughen them up and they learn a life's lesson. Sometimes you have to sacrifice something to get something. In this case, sleep for basketball. Another valuable lesson, if you are dragging ass the next morning, you still need to get up and go to work.

I probably won't watch it, like I haven't watched the football championship for like 7-8 years. It's late, I have work in the morning and it's teams that I hate. Same reasons I don't watch the CFP. Last year I stayed up for it, because I wanted a non P5 team, Gonzaga to win, so there was something positive to root far, Non P5 winning and also there was another positive, No blue bloods in the game. but this year, it's like I'd want both teams to lose, so I doubt I'll watch it and a 9:30 start time is ridiculous.

People act like these start times are arbitrary. It’s been tipping after 9:00 for 4 decades. In its heyday, Monday Night Football kicked off well after 9:00 every single week for decades. The game tips off after 9 Eastern because clearly that’s when it reaches the most eyeballs for sponsors and TV advertisers.

Then you are the reason. 6:30 your time. It's like the old Monday night football argument. Rather the folks out west not miss the start even though a lot of people in the east have to stay up late to see the end.

It is a west coast retirees dream. Rarely are any games ending past 10.

More than start time...why put it on TBS. I know most have it or can stream it, but I have Fubo and they do not carry TBS or TNT. NCIS is on CBS in that time slot. Why not put it on your main station.

Pretty sure the finals are on CBS but I get your point.

It’s been 9:20 for as long as I can remember. The only reason the football championship kicks off earlier is the game time is much longer. My only concern is whether my preferred drinking spot will stay open for the whole game as they normally close at 11:00 on Mondays.

Yep. I think it's pretty safe to assume that they've done a study or two on this by now.

Plus it'll be over by like 11:30, whereas I believe the football game went well past midnight.

Because Turner ponied up half of the rights fees so they clearly wanted some of the Final Fours on TBS over the life of the deal. While you would think having the games on CBS would generate more eyeballs, clearly Turner thinks the branding and the promotion of its other programming (MLB, NHL, other TV shows) is worth it.

Oh, it's their right to show it on what ever station paid for it. It's just that there are a least a few people like me that can't get it with my streaming service.

not arbitrary, inconvenient. Its not the eyeballs (lot of younger eyeballs sent to bed) since they can only count devices...

and now Monday Football kicks off well before 9pm and ends later than it did when kickoff was after (not well after) 9pm. ..not sure about these old eyeballs watching into the second half...

btw, why would MNF switch if later is better?

Just checked and you are right. CBS bids for the rights to one of the very top sporting event of the year and pushes it off to another network? Unbelievable.
It was a joint bid and they share the rights equally. I remember at the time, ESPN said they didn't how you could make money from what they paid.

MNF switched so that the games still end at approximately the same time. When the games started at 9:00 they were typically over by around 11:30. Now, when the games start at 8:20 they are typically over around 11:30.

BTW, this is, I believe, the 3rd time that TBS has shown the championship game. It would have been the 4th, but they were the ones who were supposed to show the game when the tournament got cancelled.

Does no one remember that?

I'm 45, I've buried both parents, have three kids and I'm on marriage number two. I don't need to toughen up, the 930 start time is ridiculous.

This is a decision only the Pirates and NCAA could make.

But Jim Nance…lol

Don't most people have TBS, I've had it for 40 years
I’d hope so for their sake! Interestingly enough, they seem to have a decent sports lineup with the MLB Playoffs, the National Championship, and now the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

What I don't understand is why so much consideration is given to Californians.

Kansas is putting me to sleep. The Buffalo Bills of the NCAA tournament.

It is amazing that the loss to us has turned around the entire season for UNC. They are on the verge of winning it all.
