Higher profile college games steadily moving off campus to NFL venues.
We may have been ahead of the curve by dumb luck. We just need to meet the higher profile test.
Sean why would WVU move a game to PNC?Do you really think the Nutting's would pay anyone to play there?Plus WVU would gain nothing by playing in Pittsburgh. Now if the Nutting's would build a temp field at the bottom of the North Face at 7 Springs that would bring the fans out!

I don't think a football field would fit easily or safely enough there ... And yeah it would cost money to put on such a spectacle, definitely anathema to the Nuttings. But don't underestimate the lust that a WVU zealot would have to be able to conduct such a game in its hated enemy's backyard. Nutting happens to have more lust for money, but I'm sure even he was tempted at the thought.I don't know. The Dude claimed Pittsburgh is a WVU home game and Heinz will turn into a regular home site once Pitt is relegated to the PSAC, after the ACC collapse, and the Big 12 becomes the best power conference.
ND playing Wisconsin at Soldier Field or Lambeau, or Florida playing Georgia in Jacksonville every year, in "event games" is a hell of a lot different that ND or Wisconsin playing every one of their respective home games in an off-campus NFL stadium. Do you not see that?Higher profile college games steadily moving off campus to NFL venues.

Oddly.....you know a lot about posters on different message boards. The Dude is to Wvu what Steel Curtain is to Pitt and Rutgersal is to Rutgers!Gee what happened to The Dude and Steel Curtain?

WVU played BYU last year at Fed Ex field in Landover, Md. This year they play the hokies there. Next year WVU plays Tennessee in Charlotte. I think the games played at these pro venues won't ever be against conference foes. Will always be out of conference games in areas where you have a recruiting interest. Or as someone mentioned above the money is just to good to pass up.Umm. Nutting (or any MLB owner) would host a college football game in a heartbeat. Why? Because it makes money. Its not like Nutting would lose money hosting WVU. Its WVU who would have to see if playing Kansas in front of 40K in Morgantown is worth it when they can make it an event game at PNC Park.
Wisky played LSU there, and NW has done it a few times I believe.I seem to recall Wisconsin having played a game at Lambeau once before, as well as Northwestern playing at Soldier Field.
Nobody is close to RutgersAl. He may have been Hitler's propaganda man.The Dude is to Wvu what Steel Curtain is to Pitt and Rutgersal is to Rutgers!Gee what happened to The Dude and Steel Curtain?
I know a lot about other teams message boards because I have no life and actually read them.Oddly.....you know a lot about posters on different message boards.
It sure makes a lot of sense to the top programs in college football. Alabama does it every single year. WVU did it last year and this year and is slated to do it in the future. So play a state school's game outside of their state. Makes no sense to me to lose that money for your state.
Agreed. I am not a fan at all. However, the schools, conferences, host sites, and NCAA don't care. They care about the dollars.I know why they do it, but these big-time matches would be a lot more exciting if scheduled as a home and home for the two teams involved.
WVU played GMU back in 2012 at FedEx field. WVU recruits the DMV and Baltimore pretty well so playing GMU there was a no brainer. Not sure the attendance but the WVU vs. Va. Tech at Fed Ex this year is already sold out.WVU isn't going to give up a home date to play at Nutting Special Field in front of what -- 40K? Now, if a road opponent should want to host West Virginia at PNC in a "neutral" matchup -- say, a Youngstown or a Kent or Akron -- a school that recruits students from Pittsburgh but plays in a smaller venue -- then you might have something intriguing that would surely stick a burr under Pitt's saddle.
If that happened, I'd hate Bob Nutting more than I do now. If that's possible.
Problem is, I question whether or not you can safely fit a football gridiron into the Nutting Field playing area footprint. It would be really tight, and playing in one direction only, as Northwestern and Illinois did at Wrigley Field, is cheesy.
WVU-Hokies will be a barn burner! What, the Black Diamond Trophy, right?WVU played GMU back in 2012 at FedEx field. WVU recruits the DMV and Baltimore pretty well so playing GMU there was a no brainer. Not sure the attendance but the WVU vs. Va. Tech at Fed Ex this year is already sold out.

No that was Hillary gonna "put a lot of coal miners out of work".I thought Obama did away with the coal trophy?
No?

Yes the winner of that game gets to keep the Black Diamond trophy. It should be a great game. The DMV is a big alumni area for WVU but it is for the Hokies as well. I expect WVU to have a great turnout but I have a feeling the Hokies will have even more fans. The atmosphere should be great.WVU-Hokies will be a barn burner! What, the Black Diamond Trophy, right?

This is exactly how i'd see it go down.WVU isn't going to give up a home date to play at Nutting Special Field in front of what -- 40K? NOVA is VT territory for football. They played there before and VT had about 70k fans at FedEx. Expect the same amount again.Yes the winner of that game gets to keep the Black Diamond trophy. Well WVU typically brought 30K to college park for yearly games vs. the terps and college park is only a handfull of exits away from Fedex. WVU and Tech haven't played since 2005 so I expect extra enthusiasm for this game. I think FedEx holds 80 or 85K. WVU will have at least 30K if not much more.NOVA is VT territory for football. Why doesn't Pitt move a home game to PNC?It seats about 40,000 and would sell out and make an exciting venue to play in.
