Jerrod Calhoun is the answer.
It’s not a requirement, but beneficial because there’s an attraction to the area for him.Why does being familiar with the area matter?
He’s currently Utah State’s head coach, after about a decade of pretty successful head coaching at Youngstown State and D2 Fairmont State. He’s originally from eastern Ohio, played for Rollie Massimino at Cleveland State before coming up through the ranks for Huggins at Cincinnati and WVU before getting the head job at Fairmont.Tell me more about Calhoun.
We’ll pay top 20 money. So should be attractive to a sitting HC and not have to go after an assistant
The guy has won everywhere he’s been. He’s a good, young coach who can recruit. I’d call him a young version of Mick Cronin.Tell me more about Calhoun.

Not to mention he was born in East Liverpool, which is basically Pittsburgh…He’s currently Utah State’s head coach, after about a decade of pretty successful head coaching at Youngstown State and D2 Fairmont State. Impressive resume so far. Why would he risk a setback at this point in his career to come to Pitt, given the current circumstances. Not to mention he was born in East Liverpool, which is basically Pittsburgh…![]()
Because Pitt will give him the resources he needs to be successful (NIL, facilities, staff), and it’s been shown that a good coach can turn this into a top ten program nationally. IMO, I don’t think our lack of success comes from a lack of investment.Impressive resume so far. Can one of you who knows about Calhoun put some things on him in the board. Ive never heard of him, and not seen him. He sounds like what Pitt needs. More in the mode of people like Howland and Dixon. Just someone who can teach the game of basketball and coach. Would like to know what and if he has a system that he coached. We need a good coach , regardless of age .

His teams play fairly uptempo. In what little I've seen Utah St this season, they play both zone & man.Can one of you who knows about Calhoun put some things on him in the board. I missed their game last night, but it seems Boise St put a beatdown on the Aggies.
Calhoun is a no-brainer unless we can somehow get some bigger name. Really shouldn't even conduct a search. I didn't even know he coached at Fairmont St and lead them to the D2 NC game. Frigging Fairmont State. Then he turns a dead YSU program around. Then takes over a Utah State team, which is a good program and they are 24-4.
Preferably one with a conflict of interestOh I’m sure we’ll pay some search firm 6 figures for it
