I knew *some* of this but not all - just an fyi here:

Men's college basketball teams are rated for quadrants based on their opponents' NET rankings and the location of the game:

  • Quadrant 1
Home games against teams ranked 1–30, neutral games against teams ranked 1–50, and away games against teams ranked 1–75

  • Quadrant 2
Home games against teams ranked 31–75, neutral games against teams ranked 51–100, and away games against teams ranked 76–135

  • Quadrant 3
Home games against teams ranked 76–160, neutral games against teams ranked 101–200, and away games against teams ranked 136–240

  • Quadrant 4
Home games against teams ranked 161–353, neutral games against teams ranked 201–353, and away games against teams ranked 241–353
The NCAA uses the quadrant system to help determine which teams are selected for the NCAA Tournament:
  • Quad 1 wins: Considered "good wins" and are a strong indicator of a team's resume
  • Quad 4 losses: Considered "bad losses" and can significantly hurt a team's chances of making the tournament

The NCAA's NET rankings are a primary metric used by the selection committee to determine seeding. The NET rankings are updated nightly and are based on an algorithm that considers the outcome of games.

The WVU and LSU wins could flip to Quad 1 My god is the ACC bad at basketball. Is it good at anything aside from soccer and volleyball?

LSU is going to tank hard. WVU might actually be good, which I don't understand.

Putting UNC in as that 4th team right now is being generous. They are 5-4 with a NET of 42. I do think the ACC gets 4 and maybe 5 but I wouldn't count on UNC being one of those. To your point, the ACC has a massive basketball problem. They got 2 teams in a 12 team CFP and may only get 3 in a 68 team basketball tournament.

Why is lsu going to tank hard?

One of their best players, Jalen Reed, got hurt and is out for the season.

I don't know that that means that they are going to tank hard, but they are going to play a lot of good teams in conference and it's going to be a lot harder for them to win without him than it would have been with him.

Yea, unfortunately, they are probably going to only win between 4 and 6 SEC games. Hope I'm wrong.

Nah. The announcers at the Greenbrier said that LSU is much deeper than Pitt. They’ll be ok with the injury.

Slipped back to NET #11 through yesterday's games.

Also, KenPom #25 and Torvik #26 this morning.

Torvik Prediction for Jan 1 Cal game: Pitt 89--Cal 71

Torvik Prediction for Jan 4 Stanford game: Pitt 81--Stanford 70

Torvik Prediction for Jan 7 Duke game: Duke 77--Pitt 64

Most important thing is to not overlook Cal or Stanford. Pitt is the better team but they can’t over look either of those two teams and take the q3 loss. Duke game is largely meaningless in the grand scheme barring a major upset.

A low single digit loss to Duke might be as beneficial as an upset win in terms of computer rankings, however.
