Stephen Patrick just tweeted that a wrestler from Red Land H. S. named Bryce Brennan has committed to Pitt

I believe he placed at states in his junior and senior year. 7th or 8th. Red Land doesn’t have much wrestling tradition to speak of, so I believe he’s one of the more decorated guys they’ve had in recent history.

Point #1: Someone better get on the phone because ODU just dropped their program.

Point #2: how did this guy get this kind of class to ODU???

NORFOLK, Va. –
Old Dominion wrestling's recruiting class of 2020 has been nationally ranked ninth by The Open Mat after signing 12 student-athletes to join the team next fall.

Of the 12 newest Monarchs, eight of them are nationally ranked in the top-20 in their weight class, and six are featured in The Open Mat's National High School Rankings. The only other schools that brought in six athletes from The Open Mat's high school rankings are Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech, who are listed first and second on the rankings list, respectively.

The Monarchs' recruiting class of 2020 includes Antoine Allen, Kolby Allred, Tyler Badgett, Bilal Bailey, Ashton Habeil, Jake Harrier, Dajun Johnson, Steven Kolcheff, Marc Shaeffer, Sage Serbenta, Nick Stonecheck and Connor Williams. These dozen athletes are coming from all across America, with eight different states represented.

Each of the wrestlers that have signed on to wrestle for ODU have been state placewinners, while eight of them have been state champions. To read more about Old Dominion wrestling's recruiting class of 2020, click here.

Their 9th ranking for recruits is based on the number of recruits, not the quality of recruits. Having a recruit in the top 200 does not mean they are getting elite recruits. I will guess that Pitt’s recruiting class would do better as college wrestlers than the 12 going to ODU. There are 80 all Americans each year in the ncaa. Their are approximately 800 ncaa wrestlers ( or more) wrestling each year that were top 200 recruits. 200 per year over 4-5 years. Top recruiting means getting top 50 recruits and/or being top 1-5 in a weight class.

Norfolk Va has always been a wrestling hotbed. NCAA champions galore used to come out of Granby High-and Billy Martin’s son is the ODU coach.Billy Martin is one of the greatest coaches of all time. What a terrible loss to wrestling.

ODU had two AA's in 2019. Sa'Derian Perry was an AA at EMU before the program got cut. Larry Early was an AA at 157. I believe they both graduated.
