6'7" (!!!) combo guard from Virginia. Offers from VCU, Minnesota, and Georgia. He's really started to blow up in the last few weeks, so Pitt may be getting in slightly before other major players. Good handles, can get to the basket; not a good 3-point shooter. Obviously elite size at his position.

Shooting can be taught and practiced. My 14 year old son recently won a free throw contest by hitting 94 out of 100. 4 years ago he couldnt make one.

Get a athletic defender with drive and love for the game, and he will be fine.

Yes and No on the shooting. If bad shooting habits have been learned and practiced for a very long time they are very hard to correct later.

Agreed that shooting can be taught but it's not something that will automatically get better with time and repetition. It's a hand-eye skill so some guys will just never get there with the concentration park of it.

Anyway, you'd rather have a team full of shooters than a team full of non-shooters. But I certainly wouldn't hesitate to offer and play a 6'7" guard with real handles and good defense just because he can't shoot. Hell, Kentucky and Louisville are annually packed with hyper-athletic guards that can't shoot and they always seem to do ok. Ben Simmons was NBA Rookie of the Year and he had never made a shot longer than 20'.

He's 6'7 now?? Damn these dudes grow in a couple days.

Only to an extent. If you are a bad shooter by age 18, you may improve a little but not much
Disagree. Jordan - wasn't the greatest shooter...more of a penetrate/scorer. Then he adapted his game and hit jump shots all day. That fade away...dear lord

That was more like "extending your range." His core mechanics were still solid and were solid going back to UNC. Tons of players extend their range by adding core strength and repetition. But their shot more or less has the same release and mechanics. Which is different than someone who tries to remake their shot, which almost always fails.

Fair points

Well, that is true. I dont think some big guys like Shaq could ever get it. But I think it can be improved with coaching and practice, no matter the level

Shaq is a unique case where his hands were literally too big for the ball. There have been a few other players like that over time. Try shooting a softball sometime into a basketball hoop!

Anyway, I just don't think most players are significantly going to improve their shooting form, though you should strive for some improvement. I think i's more like what's your base and can you increase your %'s by 3/3/3 within them, assuming roughly the same shot selection.

Granted, there is a deeper three point line but the NBA shooting percentage is only 2% higher than college despite having a much smaller pool of more elite players. At some point your shot is your shot.

If he can’t shoot the three then he is most likely a lock for Pitt bc we never get a player who actually can shoot the ball.
