Now I have to admit I know very little about the world of college wrestling, but I do know more than a little about candidate recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and closing the deal.

Many posters on this and the other site have taken the new A.D to task for everything from
sheer incompetence to total stupidity. Maybe those criticisms are correct, but I doubt it.
Ask yourself.....Do you think the powers above (I'm assuming Chancellor level and V.P. level) would ask a new A.D. who is barely on the job for a week to come in and just take over and run the entire process without insisting on certain procedures and guidelines???
IMO, Lyke operated from a position where she was placed, and most likely was given some
very strict guidelines and directions. For all anyone here knows, maybe she really wanted
Santoro and the Edinboro coach but her superiors for whatever reason didn't.
1. Salary? I doubt being brand new she had the power to set salary requirements.
2. Facility upgrades? My guess is she was told what those would be and when.
Those are two very big issues and none of us know what range she had to operate with
both. My guess is her range making ability was limited.
Personally, I'll hold my criticisms on Lyke until after she's here for awhile, gets established,
and makes a few more decisions. More than anything IMO, she was the "front guy", maybe
even the "fall guy" for this entire process.

The word is she was given carte blanche and she wanted a pittsburgh guy with little experience so that with a little Pittsburgh ingenuity, Pitt's wrestling program can turn into the Primanti Brothers of college rasslin'.

It remains to be seen.

If they/she are going ultra cheap on the programs of little attention, so that more resources can be poured into men's basketball and football, I can support that.

But if it's just indicative of yet another (further) de-emphasis of all sports... in anticipation of hemorrhaging losses expected for the basketball program over the next several years, perhaps... obviously that's disgusting.

Primanti Brothers of college rasslin....LOL Then why not the Italian, Santoro??

On the other hand if she were given carte blanche , I would find fault with that
since she was newly hired. Let's face it, some part of the process had to be going
on before she got here. Again, my guess is the powers to be had ideas already
in place before she arrived. Ask yourself....If you had carte blanche, had the resources and could
hire a Pitt legend, wouldn't you do JUST THAT?? ...especially if it were a no brainer like Santoro. You hire not only a Pitt legend,
but the splashiest of splash hires. What a great way for you to make a name for yourself
here. I gotta believe the blame lies elsewhere. I'm inclined to believe other factors are in play.

Primantis are Greek.
