Bell is a Top 40 recruit in Flo. WPIAL kid, Belle Vernon. He's worth knowing something about. He is top 50 in AWP and top 100 in Intermat. Billy Schmidt is a walk on from New Jersey. Wentzel who you do know about is a PA state champion. Christian Dietrich is a top 50 recruit in every recruiting service. We have 3 scholarship commitments. All are quality wrestlers. Check them out.I saw this on Intermat, but could find out nothing about him. We have three recruits they have identified: Jake Wentzel, who I am familiar with, Schmidt, and Austin Bell, who I know zilch about.
Neither Bell nor Schmidt is listed in Intermat's top prospects. Meanwhile, Lehigh has six verbals, including the number 6, 20 and 26 wrestlers in the class per Intermat. All are from PA.
NC State apparently has decided to really upgrade its program, with 7 recruits so far.
Dietrich will be an 184 pounder. He wrestles up in high school sometimes, but is not real tall and will likely be a 184 pounder his whole career. He was a new York state placer as a Jr. High student and won states as a sophomore. He then transferred to Wyoming Seminary. Therefore he doesn't wrestle in PA states, but in prep school nationals. He got hurt last season right before nationals. However, he beat the eventual national champion during the season and will have a decent shot of winning the nationals this year. Bell will likely be a 165/174 pounder. He is also stocky and has likely quit growing with regards to height. He wrestles 170 in high school. Per his club coach, its not hard for him to make 170. His most notable win was against 5 time Florida state champion and UVA freshman Fox Baldwin who was a top 15 recruit last year by most services. Wentzel would likely be a 157 pounder at Pitt. Campbell who you recall is a true freshman now, currently weighs 175 pounds. He is very lean though and cutting him down probably doesn't make sense. He will likely stay at 174 this year and likely for the future. You never know how a kid will grow, but those are good guesses for weights. What weight classes are Bell and Dietrich?
He has 3 years left including this year at 157/165. So he will have 2 years left while Wentzel and Bell will have 5 to wrestle 4. Cody fits in the plans, but this would be a good time to take the next step and utilize his immense talent. So I assume Wiercoch doesn't fit into their plans? For a three time state champion (I think) and a guy who wrestled Marsteller to a standstill in HS, he has been a huge disappointment.
