pitt realistically could win 5 of the next 6 games, Syracuse, NC st, V tech and Clemson are home, and wake and Boston college away. Thoughts?

You do realize that we will be the underdog in almost all, if not all, of those games. Also, Toney may be still be out and Brown has Strep.

We should all be thrilled if we win 2 of these games.

We could but we will be underdogs in all 6. I am worried that unless we get to the foul line a ton, we cant win. Our offense isnt playing well. Teams have figured out that if you dont foul X and Trey, you have a much easier chance. Just make them finish their contested layups without fouling. They are no threat to dish because our big guys cant catch and score.

If we win 2 more games the rest of the year, it will be a major accomplishment. Asking them to win 5 more is a bit of a stretch. Our defense and rebounding is improved but not consistent enough to win any more than 2 of those games. I just don't see us beating SU, NCST or VTech, even if they are home games. Possibly Clemson, Wake or BC, but definitely not all 3. Winning 2 of those 3 would be fantastic.

Well, ESPN has us a slight favorite vs Wake.

Pitt has shown it can play with all but the elite at home, but has not shown that they can beat anyone at all on the road. 2 wins would be good, 3 would be fantastic.

I agree with this. 2 more wins and I'm gravy

It’s not the defense and rebounding. ITS THE OFFENSE!!!!!!

My thoughts are that like many Pitt basketball fans - you don't know what you are looking at. Hense, you have extremely unrealistic expectations. Winnning 5 of the next 6 would be a miracle.

2 wins is the max reasonable. Much like the football team this year, the offense quickly became easy to figure out how to stop because it is so one dimensional.

But it will still be a good season. Nobody could have expected even this much given the carnage of the past 3 years.

The seasons upcoming are the concern, given that recruiting slammed into the wall. But, there are plenty of other threads ongoing about that issue...

They say, to have a miracle, you need an impossible situation

I'll push it to 7 games. The future anticipated lines for the next 7 games is no more than a projected 3 or so point swing in 6 of them. Virginia Tech is around 6. With that said, 6 of our next 7 games are basically a pickem unless there are starters out. Johnson is shooting over 40% from 3 in all acc games. Mcgowens is scoring under 7 points per game in acc road games, but almost 25 points per game at home games. Ellison has the same amount of points (10) total) as turnovers (10) the last 4 games which is as bad as it gets. Brown is averaging just over 3 points per game in acc road games and only played 22 minutes combined the last 2 games, only 15 total minutes for Toney the last 2. Chukwuka is averaging 2 points per game and under 2 rebounds per game in acc road games and is a foul machine. Posters 90 years old and over on this board would be more formiddable than chuk. Pitt has played the hardest conference schedule to date in the entire country. Pitt wins at least 3 of the next 7 imo.

Sagarin recent ratings and accounting for home courts the next 7 predict:

Syracuse by 3. (But too low because of bad matchup).
Pit by 3.5 over Wake
B.C. by 3
VA Tech by 6.5
GA Tech by 2
Clemson by less than 0.5

More than 2-3 wins is highly unlikely.

It's obvious there are many on here who don't understand basic concepts of college basketball. You're one of them. Maybe you should read a book on basic college basketball strategy. It would prevent you from making the kind of silly statement you posted.

The home and away throws a monkey wrench into it.

Would really like their chances against Wake and BC at home, on the road levels that out.

Then you get these solid teams at home, gives them a shot, but still not "favored."

The other problem as others have noted is Toney can't play or is hampered, same with Brown.

NO margin for error.

I get that X and Trey are freshman and play wild at times (primarily because they HAVE to), but the consternation over the assists is absurd when they have Ellison, who can catch a ball but has the worst shooting touch we have seen in recent history, Kham, a decent kid to have for depth, but no game other than his corner three, and Brown, who has some of the worst hands for a big man we have seen recently and more often than not when he can catch a ball ends up not being able to convert it.

HCJC got EVERY last bit out of every player the first several weeks of ACC play, but injuries, the wear of the ACC, hard to maintain perfection.

Pitt guards know how to drive and score--that won't change. Kene and Terrell are known quantities, and we can't expect any more than we've already seen. Opponents aren't going to be surprised by anything at this point of the season.

Apart from individual matchups, the one thing that can change is whether the Panthers have a good outside shooting night or not. To me, that's what the rest of the season comes down to--matchups and shooting. If the Panthers have a good shooting night, they will be competitive against all but the very top ACC teams.

(I put injuries into the matchups category.)

Don't forget the "and/or the opponent has a bad shooting night."
